Irish carrier Ryanair, Europe's largest budget airline, might start charging passengers for using the toilet while flying, chief executive Michael O'Leary said on Friday. Skip related content
"One thing we have looked at in the past and are looking at again is the possibility of maybe putting a coin slot on the toilet door so that people might actually have to spend a pound to spend a penny in future," he told BBC television.
He said this would not inconvenience passengers travelling without cash. "I don't think there is anybody in history that has got on board a Ryanair aircraft with less than a pound."
O'Leary has a reputation as a cost cutter, expanding Ryanair by offering low headline fares and charging extra for items such as additional luggage.
Last week, Ryanair announced it was to shut all check-in desks at airports and have passengers check in online instead.
"We're all about finding ways of raising discretionary revenue so we can keep lowering the cost of air travel," he said.

I wonder whether they'll a flat fee option? Unlimited craps per hour/flight? or perhaps they'll offer specials - Dublin to Mallorca during the month of April - "FreePee Month" ... geez.. I can just see the Ad campaign...
or do we get to pay based on weight (50 cents for each 100g of crap)? with pre-installed little bags in the loo where you can weigh your own crap and pay by credit card right there?
I can smell a business opportunity for tampon makers. Repackage them and sell them as butt plugs at the airport...

Probably 1 Euro coins w/the stewardesses having a sack of Euros and a list of (overinflated) exchange rates at their station.
It'll be interesting for people who fly with children who will want to eat and drink on the plane. Methinks that's where most of the revenue will come from... kids.

Did you all know that to work for Ryanair you would have to move to an area where training is taking place and pay for your training yourself, but if you do not pass the necessary requirements you have no job!
Also living in UK for example you may be posted to Barcelona and have to fend for yourself!

Nappies could be the answer, but if the guy sat next to me was about to crap his pants I'd be happy to give him a quid!
I loved the utube Ryanair spoof video where you had to pay for a seat belt.................. mind you, the oxygen masks came down free if the cabin lost pressure but then you had to pay £17.95 for the oxygen and have the right money on you too!

The best way to describe this Airline is;
"They are really taking the piss"
Hey it's cheap - not exactly 'cheap and cheerful', but cheap!'
I was in a queue at Stansted or Luton or wherever and somebody got a 5% discount on their burger because they worked for Ryan Air............... I was so jealous as I could barely afford a pigging coffee!
We should bear in mind that the Ryanair boss will use any opportunity to get the airline into the news. I'm guessing they won't really introduce that coin in the slot device. On the other hand, as one poster pointed out, they don't want to go under like a lot of airlines did, including Swissair by the way, and the successor to Swissair teetered on the brink also. I don't know the current situation so can't comment further. I've flown Ryanair many times. If you're flexible with your travel dates, as I am, they are incredibly cheap. Often the published fare is nil or a couple of quid, and then you of course have to pay all the fees and charges on top of that, which people love to moan about, forgetting that the airline has to pass them on to the various entities that are lining up with outstretched hands. Ryanair actually incurs a slight charge as, like the other airlines, it handles all the various payments without charge. I've never used the toilets on Ryanair. Their relatively short flights mean that it's not often necessary. I try to avoid public toilets as much as possible anyway. Last week I was in Berlin and needed to have a pee in the railway station at Alexanderplatz aka Alex. Cost? 1 Euro! Some of Ryanair's fares are less than that!!!

Same here - and if you book and check-in online and don't take a suitcase and pay by Visa electron card and don't have anything to eat or drink and don't bother with insurance because 'wtf if you lose £10 on a return flight so bloody what?' then the flight costs a lot less than just getting to and fro the bloody airport!
I've been able to travel a few times when they've not added on the airport charges and that has been a REAL bargain!
Only ONCE have I ever travelled 'VIP' (not in my own right but as the son of my father) and I'll probably never travel 'VIP' again............... travel used to be fun, but now I just try and sleep through as much of it as possible and just look forward to what's waiting for me at my destination!
