We don't have enough skilled workers to fill the void.
the migrant visa workers will all be on Australian awards.
She already employs 1000's of Australians and o/seas peeps.
There will be 1000's of Australians employed on the Roy Hill mine project too.
We're lucky we have people like Gina willing to put their cash on the table and invest in Australia even with resource taxes slugged on top.
I know she makes $2 million/hour but she only got there by re-investing her wealth rather than pissing up against the wall.

OK, then what if the Unions do find enough Aussie workers.

And by the way, when does this new thing kick in, whereby unemployed family folk happy to collect massive fortnightly dole cheques instead of going to work, will actually have their payments cut if they don't get off their butts?? I think that should free up a good portion of the workforce.

Venere I work in an industry that employes over 1200 people, most of the people on the staff are from overseas on visas... each day we see people coming in for interviews, every other day, our canteen is filled with inductees - but not too many of them are Australian... why??? dunno
The company uses Seek as their recruitment base, they must be over 18 to work there because of the machinery etc., but I hardly see any young Australian people - I am in my late 40's and I got a job there 2 weeks after applying online... so they are not discriminating... the company pays slightly above the award wage, so why is it that there is a mass of Koreans, Viet, Thai, Phillo, Chinese, Kiwi's, and South Africian, and Indian's getting the jobs... dunno

My standing joke now is that I no longer speak English, I speak Korean and Indian because in my section that's who I work with... and I tell you something I'm the one that feels discriminated against...conversing

Hi bubbles,
I know, it's a widespread issue. When it involves Gina, it hits the media. A good thing as it will continue to highlight the issue which I raised above. If we looked at the u/e figures, it amounts to tens of 1000's, so it's not as if we have zero unemployment in this country. What it might be showing is that a lot of these u/e Aussies have little pride and could care less about contributing to society, self-satisfaction etc. You will never see a Vietnamese or Indian sitting around taking welfare when they can work, and multiple shifts when they can.

I'm not having a dig at Gina, but that perhaps she could be in a position to force the Fed. govt to pressure Aussies to get off their butt, and make a conscience issue out of it. Someone in her position could have a lot of positive political clout. But she does opts out. Perhaps it might change come 1st July when new legislation kicks in. One can always hope.

All political parties require rich people to support them and now it has come time for pay back. Labour is not for the average Australian.Justs as long my pension gets payed i don't care who's in power because they only look after themselves and there mates.handshake

Unfortunately people move to where I live so they don't have to get a job.
Moving to the Pilbarra would mean you would have to work, be that in the mines themselves or cleaning the accommodation, laundry, cooking, hairdressing, etc, etc...

Names are being bandied left right and centre.

Gina who inherited a lot and wants to keep earning money because that is what her father taught her, "be frugal and don't waste it."

Hawke who let his Treasurer let us become a Banan Republic.

Carr who managed to get NSW near enough to being bankrupt, sold off all the power companies that rightfully belonged to the local Councils, and also thieved $650 million from my super fund.

If Aust had followed Joh B-P's example in the 60s/70s by introducing a resource tax on mining throughout Aust, we would have been better off now. Then again Laboring does come up with "original" ideas and our saviour Juliar has cottoned on to the idea and has decided that we must make up of missing out for 40 years by going to the extreme now and getting back 40 years of lost revenue in 1 year.

When you look at it Howard was truly a "walker" and not a "runner." He did proceed with caution thinking more in the long-term, not that we will give you $160 in your bank acount now (if you are so lucky) and another payment in 10 months time to remind you of the bribe.
