I don't have a passport (nor inclined to get one unless you had ....... nope, not then). Also, I am on Austrlia's Most Unwanted List and they might not let me back into the country (only on it because I am currently sponging off them).

A mate went recently to Cambodia and loved it. Then again, he had a local girl guiding him around and he is going back to see more (of her I suspect) this year.

SBS had a couple of shows recently on the Khmer capital Ang something ...... one mega city built around 1500. There are still a lot of temples around to see in Cambodia and I gather the humidity is not quite so bad (90% instead of 99% in Vietnam).

Get a "Round world" ticket and go everywhere. It is fantastic.

If Asia is your thing (cheap, accessible and relatively safe) then you can't go past Vietnam. Hot though in most parts of it.

Also China is really good. If you like adventure, there are amazing trails you can do cheaply in China. I would recommend the Ghangus Khan trail. Fantastic and remote people and amazing life experience.

Cambodia is also quite good.

Where ever you choose to go though, don't do the "ugly Australian" thing. Asians will tolerate it for the money you spend with them, but they will despise you for it.

Take Bali for instance, they smile to your face, but they don't think Aussies are a nice nation of people because of the "ugly Australian" experiences they have there.....

Can highly recommend Vietnam, HCMC, District 1, Bui Vien Street, about $12 to $15 from the airport
10pm till 4am type of place with good local people and tourists.
Mui Ne also Vietnam just up the east coast for seafood and coffee.
Hoi An for the people and great tailor made cloths.
Ha long Bay at the top for a few nights on a boat, take extra food with you, lol.
Millions of hotels everywhere so I never pre book.
Hope that helps and enjoy your travels.
