Saviours in the midst

The moving earth

such an unstable ground

What a mighty life

many found

The unstoppable journey

amongst

held back in tears

for those so asleep

a new world

they bound

So much help within the hour

A hand in hand

a weighted rock!

so hurled into space!

You know who you are

amongst all the turmoil

To dig so deeply

just to see that face

A sudden snatch of lightness

from brick to brick

A booty rock

you tossed so quick!

Our hope flied

As the nature

torn down lives

So sudden

as darkness fell

We awaited the call

We found many

I'm sorry not all

From over 20 Countries

they poured into our land

Linked Saviours (All you!)

so many

like grains of sand

WE So Deeply Thankyou

You cradle our Loss

As many tragic scenes across the world

Your support is so great!

YOU ARE TRULEY OUR MATE!!!

Hand in hand, yes we weep!

For all those of Whanau (Family)

We lift the greiving

to know we all send and greet your prayers

It means so much to us all my beautiful friends

Sadness tolls

upon my country

there is no turning back

but, to always, for all Countries

We shall never cut the slack

In the Mode of Miracles
We never give up on hope

Of all whom were consumed

Our LOVE will ALWAYS float

THEY/YOU WILL NEVER BE ALONE

I close with a rapture of "Aroha"

"May your spirit rise

may you feel and sense all our love

forever and ever"

We Thank you all!

Always Soph

In 1913 Palings published a piano-variations piece in Australia, Swiss Cradle Song.

In 1915 its opening theme was modified for the singing of Po Atarau to farewell Maori WW1 soldiers.

In 1920 Maewa Kaihau wrote a This is the Hour verse, and in 1935 she modified the Po Atarau verse.
This became the Haere Ra Waltz Song, which was sung when steamships were departing overseas.

English wartime singer Gracie Fields learnt Haere Ra on a visit to New Zealand in 1945.
Her version of it, known as Now is the Hour, became a world-wide hit in 1948.

Pö atarau
E moea iho nei
E haere ana
Koe ki pämamao

Haere rä
Ka hoki mai anö
Ki i te tau
E tangi atu nei On a moonlit night
I see in a dream
You going away
To a distant land

Farewell,
But return again
To your loved one,
Weeping here

Soph, Many many souls have been touched in sorrowful and hopeful ways by the quake. We here at the corner, are happy that you have been relatively unscathed by events, and wish you Godspeed in your journey to continue the healing in Christchurch. ;-)

I defy anyone to read this and not struggle to hold back tears. Certainly in England 'Now is the hour' became a standard - it was perhaps better known as "The Maori Farewell Song".

The overwhelming thread throughout all the TV footage of this terrible event is the sheer fortitude and bravery of the NZ people. Last night showed a 5 year old's coffin being carried for burial with amazing dignity and courage by the child's father.

I know all of us on PC will rejoice that you personally have come through this Sophia. Yours is a proud and resilient nation, but your fellow citizens WILL overcome this terrible tragedy and rebuild whatever needs rebuiling.

Still in our thoughts

Soph...we here in Australia look to you Kiwis with great fondness despite sporting rivalry and the rest. We've all here been very touched by the powerful scenes of resilience and courage in the face of what is arguably NZ's worst natural disaster.

My sincerest sympathy and well wishes to all those affected. sad flower
