Presence

A cat sits waiting
eyes fixed,
patient
as a Zen master
at the base of a tree,
awaiting
the wary squirrel
with the short
attention span.
The wind sighs
through the oak tree
as the cantaloupe vines
race with its shadow
to keep to the light
they cannot even "see".
Rooster scratches leaves
around a fallen limb
searching for grubs.
"Luk-luk, luk, luk-luk!"
he calls to his hens
but the clever dog
arrives well ahead.
She knows what he said
and she scarfs up his find
instead.
"Buckup-up-up-up-UP!"
Rooster protests.
"What," indeed is
"the meaning of all this?"

Hi Cailin,

This is such a delightful scene. Even in the animal kingdom there is a language. "What is the meaning of all this?" Yes, what indeed? Once again your simplicity hides great complexity. Nicely written. wine bouquet

Thanks so much for enjoying this with me, my friends! I appreciate being able to bring a little joy into the world and it's always grand to hear that it has found a mark in someone's heart(s).

I love you ALL,
