Depression

I know not what my day does bring,
this feeling of being alone,
no longer does my heart sing,
unearthly presence within my home,

Looking back brings about some tears,
wondering so much the why?,
was I really that person over the years,
breathing deeply, take another sigh,

when will the sun shine for me,
so many hurtful things being said,
how can I cope if no-one will let me be,
need more rest time for bed,

Some days bring me so much cheer,
why hurt me over something that is dead,
I try to climb above all the fear,
but my mind is filled with so much lead,

Do you understand my pain,
I long for rest and peace,
your antagonism has nothing to gain,
somedays you wish for that heavenly release.

About this poem:
I saw these words quoted by a certain celebrity and felt a similar feeling towards how they felt and decided to pen this small poem of how one may feel in depression.

If you know someone who`s depressed please resolve never
to ask them why?
Depression isn't` a straightforward response to a bad
situation, depression just is, like the weather.

Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness
and loneliness they`re going through. Be there for them
when they come through the other side. It`s hard to be
a friend to someone who`s depressed, but it is one of the
kindest, noblest and best things you will ever do.

- Stephen Fry

Depression is a flaw in chemistry, not character.
