Old Age Living

These twilight years of loneliness,
no one around for me to view,
surely being on ones own is not the best,
have even vacated the churches pew,

The four walls have now become my cave,
nourishment now taken just to fill the need,
looking out my window people pass by, not even a wave,
my life it seems is a vegitating seed,

I no longer have that adventurous clout,
crippling body is aging within,
all I can do is at the telly shout,
it seems old age is now a communual sin,

No one bothers to contact or check up on me,
constantly receiving those goddamn bills,
in this life I am no longer free,
all I do now is feed the rich mans tills.

About this poem:
It seems for some that ones life can become intolerably lonely as the years catch up on us especially those living on their own. Have you ever thought about your own future and where you might be?

Sedan, Nice view of so many, but my autumnal years are the best that I ever had, the simplicity being that one must first give without expectation, only then will one receive.

Hi Stedan,
I don't know if you'd be interested in checking this out but there's a website called Spirituality & Pracice that might offer various avenues to experience a different reality with aging. There are multiple ways to connect more deeply, with your own experience, and with other people. I really like that they have an 'Elder Spirituality Project.'

Anyway, ty for your depth of sharing teddybear

Excellent piece of writing depicting the feeling of loneliness for some in their old age. I am very moved by it.
My suggestion is to discover or re-discover your link with nature in which you may find solace.
And, of course, continue writing and sharing your poetry.
Best Regards!
