I Wish

I wish that the clock could be turned back,
so I could undo the things that I did,
some of my mistakes were off that beaten track,
maybe my forgiven faults would help my heavens bid,

I wish my heart was not so frail,
to love and be hurt so much this way,
so many heartbreaks along the trail,
yet I seem to find the strength to fight another day,

I wish that people would mean what they say,
pretending their love for you is the same,
life and loving is not for play,
we have no re-runs and it is not a game,

I wish my dreams had much more meaning,
so much darkness and sadness prevail,
blackness and mood too far leaning,
could my soul be saved by that loving female,

I wish that my numbers came for that lottery win,
scrimping and saving in todays clime,
if this really happened it would make my head spin,
watching those pennies every day all the time,

I wish that I would not have to do this anymore,
hoping and praying for that wonderful day,
life is for living no matter whats in store,
come my love wherever you are are and have your say,

I wish for knowing the peace that surpasses every thought,
pleasing my mind and making me more understanding,
all these things I was never taught,
then in my life maybe I will not be so demanding,

I wish that I could have just that little bit more,
like a forbidden chocolate cake to cater for my whim,
like a love you have or need that's for sure,
having that little extra of what you like is not a sin,

hi Stedan,
your sharing of wishes is poignant. ty rose

i wish for knowing the peace that surpasses every thought, 'all understanding'... i do not mean this in a religious sense.. but in the deepest sense of my be-ing... a total, complete, perfect peace... a peace to touch the earth in its entirety

Thank you beautifulyou for your own wish and have added to poem to extend the wish list, your own thoughts most pleasantly received.

As for me, wishing for more and more is never forbidden, but being satisfied with what one has at the moment or having things we wish for one at a time is even better, so that we should still be wishing for something more. It is like leaving some space in the stomach after dinner for something like snack cake we hope to be treated to, or maybe something better. Wish most of your wishes came true, dear poet!hug bouquet
