Fear...

Raw, pure, unadulterated fear,
Everyone is periodically smitten by it,
In the wink of an eye it can take you from heaven to hell,
From riding the crest of the wave, to being you’re convinced you’re lower than shark excrement...

It is a harsh and heartless enemy,
It makes a snivelling coward of the bravest among us,
It saps the very life and smile out of you,
Fear..., means darkness, despair, dejection, disenchantment,
All ‘d’ words, reminiscent directly of the devil and his demons...

It mocks your manhood, it tarnishes your femininity,
It feeds on your demise,
“Oh wretched man that I am”, as the Saint says,
“What shall deliver me from this plight?”

Different things for different folks,
There is no easy salve,
There’s no ONE magic bullet,
Nay, the way out of the Mephistophelian labyrinth is as diverse as the many sons and daughters of eve and adam,
Only you can look deep inside you and find the elixir that will cause your Phoenix to rise from the ashes once again,
To once more put a smile on your lips,
To once more bless you with a beloved’s meaningful touch,
Your child’s laughter,
Your fellow-mans gratitude,
Your soul’s “namaste’”

I love these poems with big words. Makes like a masterpiece. The only thing is with my shortage of intelligence I have to resort to the dictionary all the time rolling on the floor laughing A truly great write teddybear

i have to resort to a dictionary too...no problem, learned a great new word "namaste" from a very intelligent, if occasionally fearful guy...human...just like me. Comforting actually ;-)

Thanks dragonfly..., I appreciate the encouragement...

Thanks Goodguy, paradoxically, we do take comfort that there are others who share similar experiences, don't we? An old proverb says only the 'fool' never experiences fear...

Excellent write. I enjoyed this one very much. Thank you.

the adrenaline rush that people seek for pleasure - when felt for real makes the hairs stand up on your skin, tightens every muscle ready for action, and when it's gone, leaves you exhausted, fragile but still standing, ready for the next challenge. thanks for these words....and congrats - you survived so far...wine wine wine

'Tis sad fact there is no one here unsaturated with the stench of fear. There is no cure beneath, beyond, above, beside. Solution lives within, inside.

good poem Earlgreytea, A vivid description of fear and our subjection to it. It has often been a wonder from where fear stem from and my submission has always been that it is in the environment which we are part of and we will continue to grow with it.

nice earl..prior I would merely bathe in it..towel off..be right as rain..til the next shower....now, seems forever to be entrenched in the drenched...hmm...a beacon far ahead...perchance a break in the clouds..a clear moment...a chance at escape...

Thank you dear 'fellow-African', I lived in Africa most of my life, where r u from? And, of course you're right, our environment has a lot to do with our state of 'to fear or not to fear'...
Earlgreytea
Hey, Hedi, thanks for your comment, my friend, yeah, 'who the heck knows what its all about' eh?
Earlgreytea
I find that acknowledging the fear plus 'laughing-in-its face' also helps to diffuse the situation, who knows...??? It was obvioulsy not my intent, to find the 'answer' , but, just to share... some of the inner meanderings...
