Things are not as they appear to be...

“Things are not as they appear to be. Nor are they otherwise.”
—some Sutra

“Quantum mechanics, has remained the preeminent scientific description of physical reality for 70 years. So far all of its experimental predictions have been confirmed to astounding degrees of accuracy.”

Electrons can behave as both particles and waves. As waves, electrons have no precise location but exist as “probability fields.” When they are not measured, electrons are waves. When they are observed, they become particles. The world[includes you and me…] is ultimately
constructed out of elementary particles that behave in this curious way.

Q. Who or what is the observer that determines the location of the particle? Is there an ultimate observer? Can we be conscious of that observer? What do you think you would see if you looked through the eyes of the ultimate observer? How would that make my personal day different? How are we affected by others’ observations?
Does every observer affect the world the same way?
What causes differences? Can I really create my day the way I want it, or is this idea just some new-age crap?
[For example, can a Greek goddess, or heck, any other kind of goddess wake me up every morning with my favorite Arabian brew, in my multimillion-dollar home on a magnificent cliff, overlooking the great barrier reef? Heck, its obvious from quantum physics, that we’re suckers who settle for far less than we should… ]

A clever piece Earl Grey, in the way that humour and seriousness is balanced.....and entertaining too......Andrew....cool

wine here calm yourself...

you may find one you call goddess but as for the rest of it.dunno

particle physics, the observer etc..i love this subject as it deals with logic and imagination, you can create your day to a point, though you may think some of the basic elements are missing right now..hug wine
very interesting words earlgrey bouquet bouquet

Immersed in the test tube of life my friend...a few more weeks before the next phase of the project begins...I'll probably just be popping in and out for short periods :)

The ultimate observer would have to stand outside the universe to observe without affecting and therefor would not exist. grin Loved this and the companion piece! beer

sometimes i have to wonder whether scientists just make up their own words to make them sound beyond us. this is something that would sit well at 3 am, with a bottle of whiskey. amazing! cheers

OH Heck!professor

All within thought, what a great! write!

OH Heck, does the view replace what is within...or without...

constructed out of elementary particles that behave in this curious way.

I agree with you about the ultimate observer Freeatlast, but, that just opens up another can of worms..., lol...

Thanks for your entertaining comment Gashley...

"does the view replace what is within...or without..."

Hi dear Sophia, thanks for your comment, to answer your question succintly, yes and no. is that cruel? so sorry, but, really, it can go both ways or even happen simultaneously... If you want a magnificent answer in much greater detail, i would have to write you a book, but, take heart, find and view the movie[you can rent it from video stores]:
"What the bleep do we know", google it also, you will get your answer and you will love it,
love and light, my friend...

Hi, Earlgreytea,
Long gone are the days of quantum physics classes. At the end of the day, whether classical, quantum or some other view of reality prevails, it is the choices we make that defines us in our world. How to identify a good choice is the challenge. I came across and hope to make some time to explore its messages. Thank you.

Thanks for your comment Massachusetts, that Bleep-guide is amazing, isn't it? I recommend it for anyone who wants to get a better handle on quanta...
