EXRED

WILLIAM WINTER 1792 Last man to hang in Northumberland

Fear gripped his heart
ripped it apart
His trembling limbs
had knowledge of his sins
Hanging was the game
Survival was plain
nonsense he knew
So right on que
he the last one
swung on the gibbet
until his bones and flesh rotted.

Not Fair And Stare

A poem that's not good enough
A brain that's not smart enough
A talent that's just not there
A pen in hand anyway
Helps to pass the time away
Whether mediocre or fair

Connections not good enough
Funds not rich enough
A social life that's just not there
A pen in hand anyway
Helps to pass the time away
And when I'm through I'll look at the wall and just stare

Not fair and stare
Not fair and stare
Not fair and stare
Not fair and stare

Car Repairs

The rear window won't defog
The wheel is making a grinding noise
The brake light is on and it's a mean looking red
The engine light is on
The brake light is on
The engine gasket is leaking oil
The muffler is making noise
The car got hit and the trunk has a huge dent
The car is rusting real bad where you fill the car with gas
The speedometer won't work
The windshield wipers won't go all the way down
The console is cracked
The car is rusty in spots, especially underneath
The headlights are foggy
The car doesn't get more than 24 miles to the gallon
The suspension is shot, so the tires wear down when it bounces
The radio keeps eating my tapes
But
I'm saving a few bucks by not buying brand new

Another Debate

Twenty candidates for president are running for the Democratic party
Verses Trump
Which one will get the nomination?
We have all these topics
The big one this year is the border with Mexico
What should be done with these people coming from these poor countries
Their main message is to take care of them
So the rule is if you have kids you get to break the law
You are allowed to steal jobs from Americans and resources
This is fair for those who see their taxes go up and up and up
While their wages haven't doubled in over 40 years
While the CEOs doulble their wages every 12 years
So it is political suicide to suggest that we shouldn't reward lawbreakers?
I guess it seems that this stuff just gets recycled every four years
It's like the fat man who used to weigh 200 pounds and now is pushing 400
I promise if you elect me as president I will eat fruit and vegetables
Not my current diet of Mt Dew and McDonalds
But the moderator would ask, "Didn't you say that 40 years ago?"

About this poem:
I should probably get another interest that is more peaceful, like bird watching!

Time To Time

Joy
Is always found
In the quiet
Reflections
Of gratitude
Peace
Can find a way
Upon closer
Inspections
Of common
Respect
Love
Finding its way
Making new
Affections
Closer
Bringing together
The raw ingredients
Blending baking
Following perfect
Directions
Life
A big recipe
You just follow to
Perfection
And opportunity
Happens
From time to time

Sheeple

Listen to me...,
We have to keep them asleep,
So we stay elite and they stay under our feet,
Keep them asleep,
Week after week,
Slaving like dummies,
They'll be chasing that money,
It'll be funny,
Buddy,
It'll be sweet,
Barely a bleat,
The sheep are easy to fleece,
If we just keep them asleep,
We need hypnotic suggestions,
Mass broadcast the messages,
Through phones and T.V.'s,
Control the whole population,
Subliminally,
No-one will believe,
Though it's hard not to see,
We will call them conspiracies,
Downplay their theories,
We're Illuminati,
Listen to me...,
We have to keep them asleep,
So we stay elite and they stay under our feet,
Barely a "Baa" or a bleat,
The sheep are easy to fleece,
If we just keep them asleep...

The road travelled.

I call danger, and you hear wolf.
Both our fates lie in your dismissive hand.
Your steps are mine, we will share the dark.
And you, like me - will lament in silence.

I call danger, and you hear danger.
Both our fates lie in your heed of cry.
Your steps are mine, we will shed the dark.
Then you and me will sing in chorus.

The Postman

“Is there anybody there?” said the postman,
knocking on the cat scratched door,
and he peered through a filthy window
and was disgusted by what he saw.

On the kitchen floor he could just make out,
through the grimy, obscured pane,
signs that a large dog lived there that could not
be arsed to go out in the rain.

He thumped the door again, a second time;
“is there anybody in?” he said,
and over an upstairs leaf fringed sill
appeared a recently awoken head.

A red, bloated face framed by greasy hair
stared down with dull, yellowed eyes
into those of the startled postman’s,
which stared back in surprise.

“I have brought you a parcel,” said the postman,
as he stood there, stared upon,
I know not what is in the package,
but it comes from Amazon.

Presently the door was opened wide
by a man, sweaty and unclean,
pyjama slit wide open showing things
the postman wished he had not seen.

And the air that escaped from that foul house
was not meant to be breathed by man
and the sight of the squalor that dwelt inside
made a pigsty look spick and span.

“Where is my parcel”, said a toothless mouth
beneath a nose exuding snot.
“it’s here”, said the postman, thrusting it forth,
then turning, off he shot.

Later, the postman passed a homeless man
begging, downcast on the street.
He stopped and reached in his bag and pulled out
a sandwich he could no longer eat.

About this poem:
I have quite heavily borrowed from another poem for the style of this one, although not quite so much in content. I am not a postman but I have been in situations that allow me to identify with this one.

Where's That Guy With The Dog?

I asked my coworker
Where's that guy with the dog?
Oh, remember that s*xual harassment video we had to watch
He was the reason we had to watch it
They fired him because he was trying to get every girl on second shift
I think of that and it makes me feel bad about the place I work
That the climate allows someone to think they can abuse their power
And use their management position as a tool of abuse
It certainly isn't confined to this place
My second boss was promoted after he was facing charges of assulting girls
This was in 1989
So are we progressing on this issue?
Maybe, at least I hope so

About this poem:
Respect is something that is so important, and so hard to find in other people I have come across. Those who truly have respect for women, especially pretty women is pretty awful in this country. I wonder how we match up with Canada or Norway.

Suggestions to make the world a better place.

Stop teaching hatred through bad examples.
Stop teaching fear through violent reaction.
Stop all the killing.
Stop all the war.
Stop shouting "gung-ho", when you don't know what its like to see some of your loved ones killed; and you're left standing in the spill.
Stop all corruption and corporate control.
Stop all the demons devoid of soul.
Stop giving power to the little few.
Stop thinking "I'm helpless", or that will remain to be you.
