scriobhneoir: He doesn't really drink much any more. I met him at a social function and he certainly wasn't twisted. Whether or not the man takes a drink is besides the point and it's scurrilous for you to bring it up.
i know it is but you do relies in the presidental house that they receive free guinness and whisky
scriobhneoir: His integrity and his record. Sure his membership of the Labour Party has meant he has had to take party lines occasionally that I would disagree with, but his record on human rights is there for all to see by contrast his opponents are
2 far-right Catholic fundamentalists from Derry (One who has been pivotal in recent years in privatising public services and also in putting the parasitic scum of the DUP into government.)
A man who has a lot going for him, but is tainted by poor judgement and most crucially the fact he claimed benefit while a seantor.
A multi-millionaire TV personality who is a FFr in all but name.
A pompous fool who encapsulates all the worst aspects of the blueshirts
A dull as dishwater Cardboard cutout who has nothing more to say for herself than "I organised the special olympics"
So yeah, next to that lot, it's hard to not look good.
I can't fathom why any left winger outside of Sinn Féin would vote for McGuinness. Not only is he as bad as any FFr down here he's probably more conservative than most.
firstly scrib im entitled to vote for whom ever i want, and demeaning my view isn't going to change my mind, and that is what you did both here and in the mail you sent me
the president as you know is mainly a ceremonial role, and any financial bills that come before him/her must be signed they can't refer it, so whether their left or right makes no difference
the reason im voting for mcguinness is that admire what he has done in the 6 counties, he brought the ira to the the peace table, now whether he did from within or outside the ira doesn't bother me, and also the fact that someone has faith does not make them a far right catholic fundamentalist
the people of the 6 counties put the dup into government alongside with sinn fein, you seem to have scant regard fro democracy though if it doesn't sit well with your warped view of it
My No1 is Dana for the simple reason; she is the only one who is NOT a nerd of the system. The others have and are still showing us just how un-individual they are when they all turn out for their group shoots which begs the question " Who is running the whole show: Or, have they all got the same publicist"? I do agree the role should be abolished along with about half out TDs.
fair play to you admitting in public that you are voting for Dana ah well.....the very first person I have heard of who will vote for her! probably the only vote she will get...if she doesn't pull out of the race! who will you vote for if Dana doesn't run??????
For the first time ever, I am seriously considering spoiling my vote. The candidates have continually inflated the role and importance of the President of Ireland, to a point where you would think they have the same power and standing as The President of America.
This, I suspect,is to make out, not that they are fit for the role of President, but that the role of President is a position fit for their over inflated egos. They have turned, with the help of the media, what is a largely ceremonial role, into the "Highest office in the land."
Of far more importance on polling day are the two referendum being held, yet the media, and the people, don't seem to care that we are about to vote to change our very constitution, and why? because it is not nearly as entertaining and salacious as digging up the past of the candidates, and inundating us with the faces of the "Ridiculous Seven."
None of these candidates represent me in any way, shape, means or form. I wish they would just shut the hell up and climb back into what ever slime pit of politics they crawled out from.
snowlynx: Yeah it's easier as that's what's on the computer software anyway.
very true, it would be telling me i was spelling it wrong so i started using the american spelling i suppose that will further ruin my left wing claims with some

red sea poll out this evening early indications are that mcguinness will be just behind michael d with gallagher slipping slightly and a rise for norris, this was taken before the debate though
Q..Why do 'you lot' or the vast majority, see people born in the north of Ireland as 'not real Irish' but are prepared to vote someone from there as the head of state?
the poll was taken before the debate so there may be movement in it since his refusal to condemn fianna fail in government, but even at that he seems to be the front runner but michael d will probably be more transfer friendly
I'm voting for Micheal D for his experience and international contacts, and second for Sean Gallagher as he could learn to be a very good ambassador for Ireland, even though he isn't there yet and he is lying about the FF connections. The rest are just useless, embarrassing or plain liars. I mean can you imagine Davis at a state dinner? "Did you know I ran the Special Olympics?" would be her sole topic of conversation.
