Happygolucky4u: I'm on a roll now. My food imagination is going wild. Large lima beans. I like to cook the dry ones. field peas and snaps. All the stuff I don't cook anymore. Why bother for one.
Careful, or you'll get me on a roll. Butter beans, quartered raw onions, sliced tomatoes, mashed potatoes w/gravy, fried okra, country fried stake (cubed&battered) w/gravy, deep fried sliced & battered squash! Oh, and cornbread and iced tea! Damn, now I'm full just typing this table spread. BURP! Excuse me!
YouMeUs: Wow, lala! Just get through your education and hopefully it will all pay off for you. Also, have you checked SS to see if you qualify for SSI? Look into it if you haven't. There are hidden programs they are not so willing to exploit, but you can ask about them as well.
Hi. Nope, SSI is for those who are disabled and in need of the services. I am what the government terms chronically unemployed. I actively search for jobs, attend job fairs and have applied for over 3500 jobs in 25+ months.
I still maintain that I am luckier than most. I have no children living at home, do not own a home or a vehicle. I am presently healthy (knock on wood), and I live off the charity of family, who are being gracious in helping me.
I have made payment arrangements with creditors ~ and they do work with you even if all you can pay is a dollar or two a month. I am in college, full time, to earn my BA and despite the fact that I might go hungry a time or two, it will not kill me and the assistance programs might not be able to help me but I know that they do help others who need it possibly more than I do.

You know just a suggestion but we could take your okra and put it over my field peas and snaps. And cornbread and tomatoe on the side. I make a good roast. Do you like the fried corn bread. The kind done in a iron skillet like a big flap jack?

Cornbread in an iron skillet, cooked in the oven, about a good 1-2 inches thick, and crispy crust on top, the way mama used to cook it! The peas & okra together would be fine...it's all going down either way! hahaha mmmm! Oh, oh...and the "Bread & Butter Pickles!! Home-made Banana Pudding for desert....
If there is no money for gas and electricity, I hope they can eat something, somewhere! Oh by the way, you can get two scrambled eggs at Mickey D's for a buck.
Happygolucky4u: I never buy taters. I like taters mashed, fried, baked, even boiled I put mustard on them boiled
I like my taters fry-baked. Skin on, cut tater in half, add a little olive oil or bacon grease to a cast iron skillet, place taters cut-side down and bake at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
You get a nice blended flavor of french fried, fried taters and baked taters all in one!

But, you can get a dozen eggs, AND a can of biscuites (10) for $2. That would last at least what, 2-3(maybe) days! Just saying.

I do my banana pudding with a meringue topping. Lightly toasted on the top. Wow I am glad I ate already or I would be ripping my kitchen apart trying to find something that resembled this way of cooking.

Olive oil yes and it sounds good. I very seldom eat fried foods anymore. Or red meat. For some reason they rob me of my energy. I got a whole list of things I no longer eat often.

When I was a kid...mother used to tell people that I could eat a "wash-tub" full of it!

Can you eat hot/spicy peppers? They have been known to boost energy. Plus, that euphoria they give after eating them is great!
Ccincy: To me fast food is nothing but unhealthy junk food.
Nor do I think food stamps should be spent in fast food places.
You're right. Although there are a few fast food restaurants that serve healthy foods...SubWay for example. But even that depends on what you order on your sub.

Don't know about subway etc cause I cook all our food at home.
Years ago I did try an experimentthough and bought an order of fries from a fast food place and let them sit for awhile in a brown paper bag on my kitchen counter. After alittle I went to take a look at the bag and it was soaked with oil from the fries.I threw the bag of fries in the trash. Now I knew why I never ate at food places.

Yep, they do go through a lot of vegetable oils on a daily basis. Just think back quite a few years ago, they were using lard to cook/deep fry. Then there were certain cases stating that lard was bad for you and all of a sudden vegetable oils boomed the markets. Now they're saying that lard is better than vegetable oil. Makes ya wonder who to believe anymore, but it's without any doubt that I'll never trust the FDA!

i think this is a good question. if fast food restaurants wanted to work in conjunction with a healthy food choice, it might work. while buying groceries and making meals at home is probably the bang for your buck..what about children that live in homes where that isn't happening? what if the stamps could only be applied to certain choices in fast food restaurants, 'pre-approved'? many schools run breakfast programs for kids, and you'd be sad to see how many are using them. for many kids, that's the only meal they will have that day.

Excellent idea! But do you think that some may cry "favoritism" if only recipients can buy them or perhaps list these select fast foods for anyone to buy? You would think they'd have to make a seperate menu for this either way.
