When you die, would you want to be buried or cremated ?
Have you instructed your solicitor of your wishes bearing in mind that a will is not read until i month after the death and funeral ceremony.
You should also give a written copy of your instructions to someone who you will entrust with carrying them out. This can be in the form of a simple letter signed by you and giving clear instructions to someone who you can trust to implement your instructions.

I'll let my family/next of kin suprise me
Ah no, cremated I reckon.
As an interesting sidenote, they were discussing Glasnevin cemetary recently on Joe Duffy, and there was a guy on talking who wrote on the topic and in his discussions with the grave diggers they were unamimous in their choice to be cremated when they die, they seen enough of the gorey stuff and the results of being 'planted'

I have always said that I wanted to be cremated now I am kinda thinking maybe buried...I am always so decisive. The thing about being buried is that so many people would possibly want to dance on my grave... No will, I intend to just have enough to bury/toast me! Music has been picked for funeral...if chapel doesn't like it then the whole shenanigans will be moved to the local hotel. After party will be great craic... Yes, a family member has all of this in writing.
Kinda like a cremation cruise...That sounds interesting...might have to rethink all of it now. Could have a beach party/barbecue then just shove me off into the water...Could be a good party depending on the weather.
I'm pretty sure theres laws regarding pushing dead people out to sea in burning boats

not a clue.....once they make absolutely sure i am actually dead first! But I reckon if I was to die of some disease or another, I might donate my body to a university medical dept.
Once I'm gone, I'm gone. I'll donate as many organs as are viable and then either a green funeral which has as little impact on the environment as possible or to be cremated and have my ashes scattered off Killiney Hill. More than anything I'd like my loved ones to have a bit of craic and banter and a good ole laugh at my expense!

Oooohhhh, I like that idea
I've been telling my kids since they were old enough to listen that I'm to be cremated and my ashes scattered on the beach, but I do like that firework idea

On one episode of James Mays 'Man Lab' they cremated a cat and a budgie and poured the ashes into two different balloons, one helium filled and one nitrogen, they attached cameras to track theyre journey heavenward and set the balloons loose, both of them made it into the stratosphere before the balloons popped and the ashes spread leaving the cameras to fall back to earth, it was actually quite beautiful and a little moving!
I wondered would some company start doing that or would there be some kinda laws?

i'd prefer to be cremated as i don't want any grave or that type of nonsense, when you are gone you are gone, i wouldn't like anyone pining over a grave, just get on with it
I will be wrapped in a biodegradable shroud (no clothes, jewellery or shoes). Put into coffin made of woven willow, water hyacinth or banana leaf (no metal nails, hinges or plastic nameplates) and buried in a 'green' burial ground. A native tree will be planted over my remains at the time of burial, marking the spot. No headstone or unnatural marker.

Phoenix: I could shave...You could make a cloth out of that.
I'm not sure what the fabric is made of...
Don't lay me in some gloomy churchyard shaded by a wall Where the dust of ancient bones has spread a dryness over all, Lay me in some leafy loam where, sheltered from the cold Little seeds investigate and tender leaves unfold. There kindly and affectionately, plant a native tree To grow resplendent before God and hold some part of me. The roots will not disturb me as they wend their peaceful way To build the fine and bountiful, from closure and decay. To seek their small requirements so that when their work is done I’ll be tall and standing strongly in the beauty of the sun. ~Pam Ayres
