no harm in asking - by things going well???? if you mean things went well because she didn't hid in the bathroom till midnight....well that is a good start
but since perceptions can differ, I'd recommend asking

Sure you have. The chances are if he likes the look you he'll kiss you. But it's not as easy as this when you're trying to pull a 22 year old stunner with a dozen beta orbiters hovering in the wings.

Her body language will let you know if she is in for it. If she's not ready, not attracted enough, or still unsure: Do not insist or jump on her, because surely there will be no second date.
Beachnit: personally i think a kiss is important although sleeping together on the first date is to soon if you are serious about getting to know someone.
