When I first joined CS I had another handle, I cannot remember it anymore. It attracted no attention at all. then I shut it down and a month or so later I came back as Catfoot. It immediately attracted attention. I think subconciously the handle does have some effect!

Most everyone knows the wisdom, "you only get one chance to make a first impression." Here on CS, that means, name, pic, and everything else is part of a package.
Most folk signing up for CS -- remember, they know nothing about it, they are just now signing up -- go one of two ways: some version of their real name or email, or something fanciful and (they hope) attractive.
You can't fault JohnQUser or JaneSmith123 for their choice of names. But, they are signing up for a singles site, where they might hope to meet the match of their dreams. Did they display much imagination? Did they sound interesting?
On the other hand, you've got BigManWithBigPenis or SweetCuddlyKitten. Might sound enticing, but the devil's in the details. You're gonna have to check their profiles. BigMan might stand 5'4" and be married. CuddlyKitten might weigh 340 lb. and have 8 kids who live with her.
I think (I hope) the best names are the fanciful sort, but those that, while memorable, don't radiate details. I took mine from the coincidence of my favorite film (in Italian) and my former stage name.
