Waterbearer63: Have you ever wanted to travel back in time?. Where would you go?.
At the time of posting this comment, the 19th century has 50% of the vote. This surprises me a little. What`s so interesting about the 19th that people would pick that time to return to.
The 17th...I believe I lived then (and would like to revisit why I still find it so memorable). It was France (and I hope far from the guillotene)! ;~}

Try not to lose your head over it. Sorry, never said I was a comedian.

Well for my answer (and I suspect a few others) the 19th century was the era of the cowboy and exploration and settlement of the North American continent (to a great degree). A very exciting time and one where a man was taken at his word no matter what his past. A new beginning for a lot of people and molded some great character in a new people.

You make some good points. I had assumed that maybe people would have liked to travel farther back than that.

I think that reality rears it head in the fact that the further back you go the less likely you are to live a good life (by todays standards). Disease and the hardships of life (unless you were born to the gentry) certainly shortened ones lifespan. The nineteen century was unlike any other in the prospective future offered to those who chose to embrace it by moving to a new world (North America). The settlement of the West was a huge opportunity for all. jmho
