Yes, I would date or even marry someone who has been diagnosed as having Bipolar disorder. I am tired of the term "Bipolar" how did it get changed from Manic Depressive to begin with? I know several people who have been diagnosed with the illness & yes, they can got through emotional ups & downs (who doesn't?).
Now with the news media & all the PC crowd jumping on the bandwagon every time someone does something bad they immediately start screaming "I am bipolar"...
I would give them a chance.....every one needs a chance to see can they cope...well that's what I think I no a few people with it and I can get on grate with them
Brigantia: Yes, if they are responsible and follow their medication and counselling (if any) regime. If a person is on the right meds they can live a relatively peaceful life without too many intervening incidents. Saying that, any partner should be fully aware of the condition and any side effects that could impose on their relationship.
Bi-polar is not catching, or a death-knell to a relationship. Understanding is the key.
I agree. I have dated bipolar women, and have a very close bipolar woman friend. Proper medical management is key.
KIBALUV: I read recently where a woman told guys after several dates that she was Bipolar & they all dumped her. This poll is to find out what the general attitude is of how people feel about dating someone with a GENETIC birth defect of mental illness.
Find me a single person on this planet who hasn't got some kind of *disorder*.... Pretty labels handed out by the Professionals to keep their ball rolling.
Everybody has life experiences and hence remain affected by one, some, or many of them. That doesn't make us this or that, it simply makes us human...
If we were to be blinded and judgemental by what someone is labelled as, no one would be in any relationship at all. Whether family, in love, in friendship.... etc.
If it comes to dating, and it is the first or second date.... that would be enough for me to not date that person anymore
- because I would not be invested in the relationship yet -
The woman who was dumped after several dates when she said she was Bipolar - it is important to find out right away rather than when she becomes more involved with the person. Being dumped hurts no matter what the reason.
How did she feel about dating someone herself who is also Bipolar? any articles on that perspective?
