They are both brown and both had a sideways pic. There the connection ends.

You're still face to face, so you can see and hear each other. Yes, you can't touch, but you don't always touch the person you're talking to in person. I think Skype is a great way to be with people you can't be in person so it allows you to have time with them.

For most people it's just a way getting to know each other that's better than the phone. Only a few people are scammers(which you should be able to tell who they are), and even fewer people are interested in recording you.
Don't get naked on cam, don't give your bank details and you'll be fine.
