What are GMOs? GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.
Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit.
Meanwhile, a growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights.
Are GMOs safe? Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In more than 60 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. In the U.S., the government has approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale. Increasingly, Americans are taking matters into their own hands and choosing to opt out of the GMO experiment.

.. how? when they don't allow the GM food to be labeled and we're not given any choices. This is a good example of domestic terrorism.
JeanKimberley: I understand that Canada has some really high standards of food safety..... only problem is they are too close to the American border.
I have never really looked into it, but I can say also I have never had a food related illness. Except gut rot from drinking too much pop if that counts.

joey987: You guys have Mr. Pibb down there still? It is a pop or soda drink.
Yup there is Mr. Pibbs - I was just making a joke about how some peeps call it pop and some soda - just a observation thing about the word for the same thing.
Have you seen the documentary where they put a piece of steak into a can of coke or coca cola and it dissolves in a few days?

GMO are organism with their own DNA but with some changes in their bases sequences.
Transgenic Organisms are the ones who have been “inserted” in their DNA some pieces of other organism’s DNA from a different specie.
Are GMO and Transgenic organism bad for humans? The full consequences of eating them are still not clear but there are some evidences that they are not good for humans (allergies, resistance to antibiotic, etc…) unless people are starving and have not other choice for feeding themselves.
The biggest concern with GMO and Transgenic organism (sorry humanity) is the genetic contamination of natural species that can make them be endangered.

No, but I might look it up. Sound interesting, although I doubt it will put me off drinking coke. People have also tried putting a rusty nail or a penny in a glass of coke and supposedly it comes out shiny new. I wonder how much stomach lining I have left? Oh well, I only live once. I mentioned Mr. Pibbs because I remember drinking it on my last visit to Cleveland. Wish I had gone to a ball game.

Leave it in long enough and the nail or penny disappears!
Gives a nice flavor accent too!
One cola contains as much sugar as a half gallon of ice cream, no wonder we have weight and diabetes problems in U.S.
Thanks for the GMO info in all above posts- very informative

JeanKimberley: It's a frustration - I only posted a quote read from a whole food research project.
I have long said the conglomerates and evil corporations have taken over most countries and we are going to hell in a hand basket because of them.
I'm not so thrilled with Whole Foods anymore since I learned that in Colorado, they use prison labor in private prisons to supply their food at cut rates, you know. That shouldn't be allowed. It's institutionalized corruption. It was on one of the episodes of VIBE on HBO. ... and yeah Monsanto was the first in Iraq to force them to stop trading seeds and buy their seeds instead. Unbelievable.

rizlared: Not sure your info is correct, it's my understanding that GM products are allowed in the EU, but only after stringent tests and approval by a specialised government agency. In fact I know GM food is grown in Sweden and Germany and possibly certain crops in the UK used as animal feed. uk
Interesting. They must have changed something in the last 2 years then. I will definitely look into it, esp. w/regard to Germany. Thanks.
We can only hope that it does because at this rate the world is going to be full of old people. Christ knows we need something to start killing people off at a reasonable age.
The only the real alternative to GM is highly intensive agricultural labour, doing things the hard and dirty way. So what we need to do is clear out the cubicle farms of all the overeducated and not very intelligent people and have them pulling a plough like they should have been doing all along. Marketeer? Telesales operative? Social worker? Get in that field you shirking sponge!

Why to down size the world's population and why by age? Many mature people are productive and sometimes even more productive than some young people.
Do you really think that -let’s say- cutting the world’s population to half, life would better for most people? and how would that be?

Conrad73: Funny thing is that the Junk OP is using to stay young and wrinkle-free is produced via Biotechnology in Vats,by Genetically Modified Organisms!
Normally, people have not idea what they eating –including me at times- unless they produce their own food.
Most tomatoes produced in greenhouses are to be GMO because they are highly productive and their shelf life is quite long.
However, not every thing is bad in GMO. There is a black (purple) tomato that some scientist have found has many good elements to prevent cancer and other diseases. Besides, tomatoes have Lycopens and beta carotene that prevent aging.
Being concern at the food we get is good but we overlook the way we live and stress is a very important factor that diminish humans’ quality of life along with other elements.
It's almost as if they know the cubicle farm is but ten years shy of being largely replaced by a computer algorithm. You can trust the Japanese to know the difference between progress and pretense. They can surpass us in creativity, culture, etiquette, health, hygiene, literacy, organisation, sophistication and at the end of it all still know what an economy is supposed to be and what a real job is. All of this with their racial enemy China ominously looming and doing everything it can to derail Japan. That they are the Master Race can be the only logical explanation. Marvelous

Which is also why you rarely see any Japanese people on CS.

So basically you are saying you have no idea about the Japanese, so they must be better than everyone else, Hmmm good way to form an opinion. Strange that in your glorification of them you conveniently forgot about mentioning their aggression, savagery in war, their love of pain and humiliation to those they think are weak, the way they deny historical facts and teach their young false history, and the way they happily smile to your face and stick a knife in your back faster than you can write 4 made up words. Guess you have never done business with them, where they are charming to your face, draw up amicable contracts take you out for celebration dinners, and then forget to pay for your work, and completely ignore the written contract. Google Olympus Fraud, better still here's a link.
