I like to be independent and just go where and when I want to go. Public transport isn't great to get anywhere locally, so it's car for me. conversing

I must be lucky. Buses every ten mins and a small railways station I can walk to on the edge of town.

Still got the car though!

It is handy to have a good public transport system. I work in the middle of nowhere and just need a car for that and to get out and about in the evenings. conversing

I only have to go over a bridge (it's an amazing walk) to go out of my home country.

I have sailed to continental Europe a number of times. I enjoyed that, even on rough(ish) crossings. In fact a rough crossing is less sickening that when a boat is quietly yawing from side to side, I find.

I depend on a bicycle because cars are too complex and costly both in money and time. Much of the time involves repairs, which mine continues to need. It needs more than I can keep up with.

I recall how much fun I had on my small motorcycles and the Yamahopper scooter I last had many years ago.

I've heard it's not a good bit of sea to cross, that bit from yours to mine.

RainComeShine: I think mine would have to be train. What better way to see our beautiful country.

I hate wasting time and there are still things I can do whilst travelling by rail.

It's a shame we don't have those cute little compartments anymore. They were even more fun.

Orient Express.

This reminded me of an incident where my ex husband had invited his best customers ie a husband and wife to dine with us at a restaurant made up of the carriages from the Starlight Express.

We were happily getting along when it was suddenly raided by police who each blocked the individual compartments whilst they searched everyone and asked weird questions.

I was so excited and it really made my evening and we were all given a free bottle of wine for the inconvenience but the said customers were not at all impressed.

dunno

Does anyone remember hitching, its probabaly not safe anymore, but when i was 18 i used to hitch all over ireland and then when i was 20 i hitched to corfu island off greece, criss crossing europe for three months, it was great. years later i ended up seeing alot of europe in a truck, you dont get to see alot of the sites but did get to see the odd few strange places.... did that on and off for ten years... dont recomend trucking for relantionships though...

Yes i remember hitch hiking. I've never done it but came close to it when, age 17, my moped broke down. Loads of vehicles passed me by then a small truck stopped with a man who'd lost one of his legs. He threw my bike onto the back of his truck and dropped me right to my door. I lived way out in the sticks and I regularly remember his kindness. hug
