Cranky_Geezer: I used to keep a Shillelagh under my driver seat when I had to drive through certain areas of NYC back in the late 70's. When I found out that was illegal I switched to a heavy duty spring. Not only did it have the same bashing effect, it can also rip the skin off someone's face at the same time... or so I'm told.
You mean because the spring has rough parts to it? If you have any assets you might be sued later and lose them. Something to consider. When you maim someone the courts look at it very differently from simple self defense.
