for the record, i enjoy a couple of beers once in a while, if im at a club seeing a kool band, but my life doesnt revolve around it, therein lies the problem, drugs was my thing for years every thing i did, everyehere i went revolved around it, how to relate now is the question. a drink or two or a pull off a joint aint no thing, im around it still but i choose not to indulge, i did my time, and have the scars to prove it.

That sounds like someone who has come out the other side? Good for you, matey!!
thumbs up

Yes, YOU controlling it rather than the other way around.... fab!!yay

I should imagine you've learned a lot, though. Any experience, good or bad, is squandered if we glean nothing from it, don't you think?

roseofsharon: I wouldn't say a "turn off" as such. Don't get me wrong, I don't want a real boozer but I would prefer someone who could enjoy a nice glass of wine, a Chateau de la Salle or La Cour Pavilion, for example.

No 'licking lips' emoticon, this will have to do ---->

thumbs up

Gizmo313: i just think that being with somebody who likes what you like is nice. if a drinker and a non-drinker are together then it goes from "it's ok, but i won't drink" to "ok well don't drink it around me" to "you're not here when i want to go out" to "you damn drunk, you need to quit drinking!" things that we don't really think are a big deal become really annoying when we spend a lot of time with a person. like a guy who sent me a message asking if i was entirasted in him. .........? i don't want to be with an alcoholic, prefer somebody who has the ability to drink, and definately no one with an IQ under 80. you know they used to fix people for that? anyways, i just think that things are nicer when people have more in common :)
Are you sure you have totally let go yet?sad flower

I have no way of knowing. The situation has never come up.

Me neither.

I can honestly say I´ve never known a tee-totaller. People who drink occasionally yes, but complete abstainers no.

Those who like a drink occasionally do not have a problem, nor feel the need to preach about how abstinence is the key to happiness.

In general, people who do that, are those who have had a serious problem in the past and come out of it, granted, with strength perseverance, and willpower.

In answer to the question though, no it wouldn´t be a problem for me to date a non drinker, as long as he accepted that I like a glass of red wine with my dinner.

I live in Spain for Gods sake! laugh

Konigsberg: You know ... I do go at Bikers Parties, I do go to Clubs and basically everywere were people suppose to be Entertained. I have never got any complains for being jugemental or acting against a crowd. It might be my talent :to have fun without alcohol. And if you would believe it I do not drink pop as well ... Brrr

And yet ... The only part of an alcohol issuses that disgust me .... Drunk women! What a disgrase? What can be worse?

Personally i wold prefer to be in a company of drunk men than women. Safer, you know

I agree.... drunk women to the point of total excess, yes!! thumbs down

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if we could all carry it off at splendidly and as sensuasly as Claudia Cardinale in the Pink Panther movie?!

Tingling lips, leading to a kiss? Then, somehow elegantly(?).... passing out (before, no doubt, getting into too much trouble)??!!

HotrodLarrys: Rick , I stopped drinking 5 yrs ago next month ! I Lived in New Orleans , La. for 20 yrs , I Learned to drink , and i learned it well !!!!!!!!!!! I had some good times , but the bad out weighed them 100 to 1 , several serious auto accidents , spent some nights on cement beds , lined with steel bars, Lawyers, judges , prosicuting attys. Dept of rev, I liked it so well that i had to quit all togather, I would stop for 1 or 2 , and every time it WAS 1or2 (in the morning) My only rational choice was to JUST QUIT! So i did !!! AND PROUD OF IT!!!!!!!!!! Now i feel that people think i a redneck because i go out dance , play pool , but DONT DRINK, I feel as tho most of the world has disgraced me , many dont know why i quit , BUT I DO , Now i dont want a drunk woman , or even the smell of it , I rebuke it , to keep my sanity! , I have Changed my life for the way better!!!!!!!!!! This is the best forum i have read, PERIOD , If any Ladies feel the same and serious about LTR , It would be encouragement for me to hear from you! I guess i feel abandoned! Good as gold , wiser than most , but still abandoned , GOOD POST RICK!! God Bless this post!

When I was almost a teetotaller (most of my life) I thought drunk people were revolting. Now, I LOVE alcohol. Num num num num num! So, now that IL is a smoke free state, I think that a non drinker could be a designated driver and would not have to inhale lung buckets full of stinky smoke to do that here in IL. In that scenario a non drinker is the best friend of someone who just wants to go out and have fun once in a while. But the non drinker would have to be able to have fun too.

I have found that people tended to avoid me when I would only have two drinks the whole night. Even now, it is like you really don't drink do you? Geeze lighten up and have fun. They do not seem to realize fun CAN be had w/o being drunk. Thus, I really don't enjoy the bar scenarios, for this reason and the other is it is usually too dark to Lip-read, I am deaf and the noise level is too over-whelming for my hearing aids to sort.handshake hug hug

For a (young) man to resist peers pressure and decide for himself if he wants to drink or not, deserves to be applauded applause

No, I have a lot of respect for men who don't drink wine

I have to say i have great respect for those that have a 2 drink limit , and can STICK TO IT , problem being with so many is they go thru a divorice , or a break-up or something trying , AND THEN they forget their limit! And Alcohol is cunning , baffling and VERY POWERFUL, so my 1 or two again was 1 or 2 in the morning , about 20 beers later, My Limit allways beat me, So best thing for me is not to have one , Like quitting smoking for 6 months and then buming one from a friend , Oh just one wont hurt ! The next day i had a pack in my pocket again, and been smoking again ever since! I know where one drink will take me ! So i dont drink that one ! Thats just me ! Some may not have the same problem i did, now i am about ready to try again beating the cigarettes , so far they have beat me ! This time if i put it down , iknow what "just one" will do , been there done it! It is called getting wiser , If you play with fire you will get burnedvery mad Again Rick GOOD POST Not drinking has brought me peace, something i discovered after quitting!peace peace peace peace peace peace thumbs up

I hope not because I am not a drinker. Although I think it is okay to share a bottle of wine with your significant other and get and little fuzzy and warm in a romantic kind of way if you know what I mean.
