There are some things I would do when I was going to meet that person for the very first time.
I wouldn't agrrange to meet them alone.I would take acouple of my friends with me. I would also take my cell phone and have it handy incase I needed it.
I'd let plenty of people know where I'm going & keep in contact with them to let them know if plans should change.
Even if they appeared to be the nicest person I would under no circumstances wonder off alone with that person.

It depends if the person lives close by like less than a hour; I would say a month after the first contact. If she lives far then that I couldn't tell you.

I agree that it would really depend on the situation and distance involved. Also, if they are coming some distance and are going to stay on a weekend, then it needs to be timed around when I have my sons. Nobody meets them until after I'm more comfortable with them, and more sure of the relationship. And yes, they would have to travel to me. I prefer my own home turf because here I have guns and dogs, and I know how to use them, plus to travel I have to kennel my dogs which is an expense I just can't afford right now on top of travel expenses.
But if they're close enough, then ideally it would be 1-2 weeks after starting to talk on the phone or IM off of here. I'd want to do that as soon as possible so that we know if the attraction is there in person or not, to assure each other that we're both really who we are on here, and can truly establish if this is a viable relationship.
