I'm curious how you feel about chatting. I mean chatting as in exchanging text lines online, not verbal chit chat.
I can't stand chatting. I find it inefficient, tedious, time consuming esp. in cases where the opposite end either is a slow typist and that it can work against a person when spelling and vocab isn't their forte.
I'd much rather talk to someone on the phone or use a voice/video function or meet them in person than to sit on the PC for hours to get across in 2 hours what can be said in 10 minutes.

Scubadiva: ... and I should have proofread these paragraphs... good grief Perfect example why text exchange sucks
I totally agree. Chatting is tedious. I'm sure everyone prefer voice communication but when you meet someone new, do you really want to give him/her your phone number? Of course, Skype is here now so maybe chatting with someone under anonymity will be preferred to chatting online. Still, there will always be women who feel more secure chatting online that talking with a man...And by judging the quality of those man, I don't blame them.
Good point tho, and about the votes, its hard to state there, as if we DONT TYPE, We cant even connect, then many wont give out their numbers, then if they do, some are Radicles...Calling you all day , all night ha, I am even kinda shy about giving out my no. so yes i like to chat, as i have to , buut yes the phone is far more!
The IM on this site allows for voice and video. Skype is a good alternative or even yahoo or msn. They all have voice/video. I wouldn't give anyone my number either, but the free services are a good alternative, imo.
If it is someone you are chatting with on a fairly regular basis you can learn a lot about their personalities. How they spell and their grammar also indicates who educated they are.

I'd rather talk face to face plus use my full repertoire of body language¬!
I like to see the response to my words - if you dilate your pupils and lick your lips I know you're hungry for my love........ yum! yum!

With the right person, I have a lot of fun instant messaging and have done it for hours at a time with the same person. I'm a fast typist and they need to be too.

Yes, you guys are right that cost of telephoning is a factor and too many messengers can really overload the operating system. So yes, from that perspective, I agree with y'all.
Just thought I'd share this, but you're probably all aware of it anyway. I went to a Kiosk and bought a card with a prefix to call my son on the cheap. 10 Euros got me 1000 minutes from Germany to the US.

Try VOIP stunt, has saved me a fortune staying in touch with family. You can call their fixed phones, all for 10 euros for 4 months. If you haven't used up the money it will be credited to your account when you top up after the 4 months. Free calls to all of Europe and Northamerica. No, lol, I am not working for them!!!!
