My childhood was established with my Mother producing a 'traditional' Sunday lunch. That was part of my life during all of my growing years; however, today in my home I do not believe in the formal Sunday dinner concept. I like being more laybacked on Sunday. Being a single man I don't want to spend my Sunday in the kitchen fixing a 'big' meal.
I have my three "C's" for Sunday:
Church: I attend Church every Sunday.
Cats: I play and brush them on Sundays on the family room floor.
Couch: I believe in being a couch potato watching NFL football and reading the 'big' newspaper.
So Sunday in my house is devoted to Church, Cats and Couch! Food just sort of happens....
I havent had a traditional lunch for years so if i was to eat that now then i would need to go straight to bed to sleep it off either that or i would end up in hospital with a dose of the traditionals..

Best leftover of the Colonial days in S.A.
Sunday lunch - roast meat, roast potaties, veg, rice and a rich meat gravy. Jummy.
These days we will also barbeque or do "Potjie" ( stew made with a variety of red meat mostly, veg etc - done in a tripod cast iron pot on the barbeque fire).
The roast is no 1 though - most restaurants do carvery quite cheaply - i'ts the Sunday lunch but with two or three red meat roasts. Some Grocery shops selling prepared meals have carvery every day of the week.
Long live the roast!
Roadhouses all do the carvery thing on Sundays as well.
