If it was genetically, biologically, and financially possible, how many kids would you like to have, or have had? Do you believe that it's appropriate for women passed the age of 40 to have babies? Would you still want to have kids at the age of 50? Do we need more babies? Should family size be limited? Or is childbirth the ultimate joy and meaning in life for women?
I want 4 kids. I grew up always going around to my aunties house, and I loved the atmosphere over there. She has 4 kids, and there is always something to do, someone to talk to, so fun to be had, trouble being made or gotten into somewhere in her house. I want a house like that of my own :)
My dear, your blue eyes are irrisistable. My christmas wish for you, is a wonderful husband, a double-story house, and a lounge with 4 beautiful kids.

Would you still want to have kids at the age of 50? That, to me, is the time for grand babies and having un-interrupted sleep.
Do we need more babies? It is the reason for our existence, primal whether we deem them necessary or not.
Should family size be limited? Yes.
Is childbirth the ultimate joy and meaning in life for women? For some women, not for all.

Being a dog breeder, I do know what breeding involves (including the risks). Also, I apply very strict selection criteria for my dogs to be considered for breeding, and I know that I myself could not in all honesty pass all of those, so I doubt I'd be the very best material for continuing the species (unless I found an outstanding sire to complement me where I lack).
The next question is the knowledge of HOW to raise a good human. Having read mountains of books and attended courses and seminars on puppy rearing and dog training extensively for the last 10 years, I realize that there must be at least just as much to learn about rearing good children (and please DON'T tell me "it will all come naturally once it's born and placed in your arms", as having taught at school I've seen the results of that approach and sadly there's much to be desired).
That said, I am in awe of and take my hat off before families where children are raised with love AND knowledge, where their abilities and talents are channelled and developed to their maximum potential, and where they are happy and well equipped to continue living their life in happiness.
Do you believe that it's appropriate for women passed the age of 40 to have babies? - I don't care at what age someone decides to have children. Not really my business to judge anyone.
Should family size be limited? - I don't think so, but I do wish some people would invest in birth control rather than bring a new person into this world (where it's NOT easy to survive as it is).
Is childbirth the ultimate joy and meaning in life for women? - If it is, I have yet to discover it, although at this point I think I might rather adopt sometime down the road (when my own life is stable and I am living with a great and dependable guy).

My mother once told me that having a family is THE defining experience in life. She said to me, "If you're not going to have kids, what's the point?" I think she was right.

ONE. Hey I already had one. Been there done that don't think I want to be doing it again.
Personally, I don't want any. They're ok if they're other people's....well some of them anyway...the way some parents raise their kids is absolutely atrocious. However, having my own is definitely not in my plans. Especially since I'm a very solitary person who likes to disappear every now and again.

I was breeding Great Danes and Italian Mastiffs for almost 15 years (which is nothing, timewise if you want to breed and raise high standarts breed.)
I totaly agree with you. There has to be all blood lines researched to 4th (at least) generation of both parents. Genetical predispositions of failures like displasia, character, body type, head and others( it is different for every breed)
Sometimes I wish people who wants to be parents could learn something from us, dog breeders. It might be sounds horrible and harsh that I am trying to compare Human to Cannine family. But genetic is genetic no matter what species. And selective breeding is an art.
Now you, people, may throw all stones on me ... I have a hole to hide in
