JadeHawk: How many times do we even notice those less fortunate than we are?
Yes, I have seen them, on the city streets in England and Ireland. None in my area here as yet, Thank God..
I have done, and would do again, contribute something to them when I can. I am aware of some people's scepticism as regards how the money is spent, but I just take the few that There for the Grace of God Go I, and therefore think the best.

I think it is one of our biggest shames that in rich western countries there are people hungry, in need of medical care with no roof over their head. When you look at some of the things our governments waste billions on it sickens me. These are people like you and me who are sick or that life has dealt a bad hand and anyone of us could find ourselves in their position in certain circunstances. I always try to help when i can but unfortunately i can't give to everyone i see. And i don't care what they spend the money on when i geive it to them because if i had no home on a cold winter night i know i would love a bottle of something to warm me up and help me sleep.

You are sadly correct. I work with the homeless, assistant director of rescue mission, we have a shelter for men and a seperate one for women, we are hoping to obtain a building to open a shelter for families in the future. Whatever you give to a homeless person might just save their life. True some spend it on booze, etc., but you still have the satisfaction of knowing you tried to help. Sadly, most of our residents are veterans. God Bless You.
Homelessness and hunger are a big issue for me--especially in the United States, where there is really no reason for it to be allowed. If our wonderful government can hand billions in taxpayer dollars to a single company which is going broke because of its own stupidity, it can find the money to help those who need it the most.
But, no. They're homeless, so they probably don't vote--so they can't help put and/or keep someone in power, meaning they are worthless to the Powers That Be.

God bless you sir and the great work you are doing. It is a pity that the rest of us are not more like you.

Thanks for posting...in my city alone..a small mid-western town, we have most of the businesses standing vacant, the three big auto makers closed their plants here and many are loosing their homes.
JadeHawk: How many times do we even notice those less fortunate than we are?
I've seen them around the old part of town where I live, near the marina. They sleep in doorways on a piece of cardboard with a plastic carrier full of their belongings. Very eerie it is cycling past them in the middle of the night One of them gave me fright of my life 'cos he was stood up in the doorway asleep or at least just resting. I had to laugh though as one of them in another part of town was stood at a bus stop and asked me if I wanted to buy a copy of "The Big Issue" as I cycled past.. at 4am!

Maybe the homeless should march on Washington DC.
Good idea, but they'd all get arrested for vagrancy.

And that really pisses me off. Those men and women are willing to put on that uniform and die for this nation if called on to do so, yet we thank them by letting them live in the gutter.
What's the statistic? 1 in 3 homeless are military veterans?

Thank-you for posting, and for not having the fellow arrested; sadly, most people here USA, fear the homeless.

I think you will find there are homeless people in ALL countries, anybe not where you live, but in the cities
Many will look at the homeless, but few actually see them. Each of those faces tells a story. Usually a sad story.
I think in today's world people are embarrassed by the very existence of the homeless and that embarrassment creates a form of fear. We are not able to process or deal with that particular fear, so we try to ignore the entire situation. We turn those less fortunate into statistics. It makes us feel better.
People accuse the homeless of choosing to live that way. Some do, but most were caught up in situations beyond their control. The struggle to improve their circumstances simply became too great and they lost all hope. When you hit rock bottom in your life, it is nearly impossible to restore your confidence and a positive image of yourself (giving you the tools to create something better for yourself) without some kind of loving assistance. How good can you feel about yourself when you only hear degrading things about yourself? Over time you begin to believe those degrading things about yourself.
In today's disposable world of instant gratification life is all about "me, me, me". I've seen so many people who are not thankful for what they have, but choose to put down others for what they themselves do not have.

You are right Morgan ,but thread's author liked to know about the homeless due to recent financial crises We have homeless peoples they are begger families but no any one homeless due to recent financial crises

Disgusting.
I agree, sir. Of the 65 men in this shelter, 52 are vets, of the 10 ladies in our ladies shelter 3 are vets.
