rohaan: I think both men and women view male nurses differently than they do female nurses. After over 30 years in the medical field, I saw this many, many times. Men in nursing are treated differently than women, as well, and not in a 'good' way. Several lawsuits have been settled in the male nurses' favor regarding discrimination in the workplace. For the uninformed, the vocation of nursing is extremely volatile, anyway. It is said that nurses "circle the wagons--and then shoot each other". I can tell you that this does, indeed, seem to be true. A terrible situation that such a fine profession has such a reputation.
I would rather have a male nurse care for me than a female. I've had both and my husband did also. I'll probably get into trouble for saying this and I can feel the bricks hitting me now, but... it seems as though the males are more caring, that they chose their profession mostly because they care for people, whereas most of the females that were attending to both my husband and I, although were very good at what they did, did not seem to have the empathy that the men did.
I'm sorry, ladies for offending you if you are nurses. Maybe it is just this way in our hospital, although I noticed it in another state where they cared for my mother and my aunt.
justdave11: omg i just got sick all over the floor......... awwwwwwwwww get a room will ya lol
you beat me to it
I dont tink male nurses are wimps either
In fact I appreciate their mix of medical skill, masculine strength and in my experience, gentleness which can sometimes come more from a male nurse than a female one
morgan5: Silliest question have seen for a while ( well maybe not THE silliest)
i agree morgan... you would think that people on a dating site would seek comments and advice regarding relationships...
... but then again, we dont know the OP, it could easily be that he has had or heard a bad dating/relationship experience with a woman by a male nurse, and wants our opinion...
personally i dont think male nurses are wimps at all... i think in this day and age both men and women are 100% equal and what career choice either gender choses to pursue is equally commendable !!!
i had a male nurse when i was in the hospital for 2 weeks when my lung collapsed. every night about 10 pm he would buzz my room and see if i wanted some ice cream and a mountain dew. Was a great nurse, would come talk to meand play the play sation with me, if he had not been there i would of not got better, cause them female nurses were cranky and mean. So no male nurses are not wimps. They are very caring and strong.

I worjed in Nursing and Social Care for 25 yrs and some of the best Nurses/Carers i had were men, its about approach, understanding and compassion to name a few. But you have a point about the Op.
Just wanted you to know, while growing up here two of the ladies I went to school with worked in the woods as loggers. I have a family member (lady) who is a long-haul truck driver. And hell doesn't get as hot as these girls if taunted for their careers! One of my best (guy) friends is a cosmotecian. And he's as butch as a cowboy on a bronco-bull. Nuff said? And hey, I think you're awesome to go into professional nursing. Mind your environment sharply, and watch your step, my friend. We NEED you in the profession. THANK YOU!!!
Godsgift: Back in 1983 I started training as an RGN at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. I stayed in the nurses home for a year. Over 300 girls and only 10 guys. Whimp? Do the maths!
To be honest, I think some male nurses are nicer and more compassionate than some female nurses. This doesn't make them a wimp, but shows how good of a person they are.
