Blues63: I'm so envious!
Martin Scorcese's film "Shine a Light" was brilliant!
I've seen AC/DC twice! Just saw Cliff Richard and The Shadows 50th anniversary concert on Thursday night. Outstanding!
Saw AC/Dc in 81 on their Hells Bells tour, The Stones in I think from memory 97 at Football Park, Queen at the MCG in 85, Pink Floyd in 87, U2 in 84 when they played in venues of 2000 in their Unforgettable Fire tour of Australia & a number of times since.

Hi Steve I saw the Floyd on that tour-bloody amazing!
I think I saw AC/DC in 1990 & 1992 ( can't remember without finding the ticket stub )
U2's last tour was awesome, but sadly, I missed the Stones
felixis99: dont remember that either blues63. But can just imagine! I'm not sure what Leslie West's prob. was - drunk - trippin - who knows. We were at a Club in Cincinnati (Ohio, USA), and he strolled out on the stage, clearly just wiped drunk, sat on a stool, played misssissippi queen, and whack - right to the floor at the end of the song......
had waited a lifetime to see MTN
Joe Cocker was too drunk to play here in Brisbane at Festival Hall sometime in the 80's. Our tickets were refunded from memory.

Yes Floyd were amazing, I sadly missed the 90 & 92 AC/Dc tours the Stones last one was awesome the staging was spectacular they had a giant devil which came down during Sympathy for the devil , from memory it was 9 storeys high the entire staging to accomodate it
Between the ones listed above i would have to say AC/DC as far as i am concerned Angus Young is one of the best guitar players still around. The truth of the matter is that i listen to many Rock and metal bands and i can not really pick a favorite.
Soundgarden all the way . Am so happy that they have reformed . I am going to see Faith No More tomorrow night as well which will be awesome . Have always been a big Nirvana and Foo Fighters fan as well .
I saw Pink Floyd live in Cologne when they did the Division Bell tour in 1994 - it was fantastic but also went to a rock weekend at the Nurburgring where Megadeth were playing along with Van Halen and a host of others. They are all good in their own right so its hard to pick a favourite!

Megadeth is a great band i like that countdown to extinction album.

Leo78: Just saw AC/DC live and realised how ordinary alot of new bands are. I have tried to give a cross section of bands over the last 40-50 yrs. Wondering what you people think?
although i ve seen a lot of rock bands live the question of makes a best rock band a hard decision in my mind.
Each one and many others offer a range of taste to head bang too, but also offer a live performance which goes towards an evenings entertainment.
Im tore between several bands But the best in all categorys would have to be Led Zep followed by Pink Floyd but i heard the eagles were great as well ? this is head banging
I mean you must be fond of Chris Cornell - as am I what did you think of his solo work?
I quite liked Euphoria Morning . I thought Carry On was ok . But I would never contemplate buying Scream . Chris Cornell and Timbaland sort of reminds me of oil and water . They just don't mix . I did listen to one or two songs off Scream on Youtube but it just wasn't for me .

I agree with them all except this Guns N Roses. Why if you didn't have Van Halen come out Guns N Roses would still be playing in clubs. Why they are back playing them. Also not mentioning Black Sabbath either?????
Rush are still around and going on tour this summer before recording their new album later this year. Thirty seven years in, they're still going and sound as good as ever.
You couldn't name another band that has gone 36 years without any changes in members (Neil Peart joined after the first album), never broke up nor had to reunite, and never suffered a dip in quality. Rush stands alone for longevity and consistency, and are fourth on the all-time list of consecutive gold and platinum albums in the US, behind only the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.
.
Someone else (whose account has been deleted) mentioned the Steve Miller Band. While SMB is one of my favourites (as is his old cohort Boz Scaggs), I wouldn't call him/them the greatest, but he's/they're still pretty damn good.
Miller has also recorded his first studio album in eighteen years, and is going on tour this summer. You can hear the first single, "Hey Yeah" on his website:

ACDC? No thanks.
They made the same album 15 times and managed to get it right once, "Back In Black".
Godsgift: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Lynard Skynard Meat Loaf / Jim Steinman Metallica Bruce Sprinsteen Timbuk 3
So just off the top of my head there's some good bands from the US.
Graham Nash, Manchester boy, Neil, Toronto, but didn't live there long. Born there and moved to another town as a young boy. Band was assembled in the U.S. though.
