There he was greeted by George Washington, who proceeded to slap him across the face and yell at him, "How dare you try to destroy the nation I helped conceive!"
Patrick Henry approached and punched Osama in the nose and shouted, "You wanted to end our liberties but you failed."
James Madison entered, kicked Osama and said, "This is why I allowed our government to provide for the common defense!"
Thomas Jefferson came in and proceeded to beat Osama many times with a long cane and said, "It was evil men like you that provided me the inspiration to pen the Declaration of Independence!"
These beatings and thrashings continued as John Rudolph, James Monroe and 66 other early Americans came in and unleashed their anger on the Muslim terrorist leader.
As Osama lay bleeding and writhing! in unbearable pain an Angel appeared. Bin Laden wept in pain and said to the Angel, "This is not what you promised me."
The Angel replied, "I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting for you up here. What did you think I said?"
I don't feel the need to believe in religion.I believe religion was man made, and spirtuality is what GOD really wanted,,but hey...that's just my opinion.

...but I HAVE nothing against people who do believe in religion..as long as they don't try to shove their RELIGION down my throat. To each their own.
Christ calls every single person on this planet, in one way or another, at least once. Whether or not you/we choose to answer in the affirmative is up to us. To love him or not is completely up to the individual, he's not looking for robots. "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." EPH. 2:8

I think you are at liberty to believe in whatever gets you through the day . I don't worry about someones beliefs as long as they are not out to hurt or try dictate what others should or shouldn't believe in.
Probably in the upbringing, and the household. Although.........I was a constant church goer from a toddler until early teens, and I am a non believer!!
I think it is unwise to say it is just fear. I used to be a christian and remember when I became "born again". It was an incredibly powerful experience. I no longer felt alone, I had a path and guidelines of how to be a good and happy person. Most of what was taught was about love and understanding. Even if I read the red letters of the new testament, I still get that feeling.
The allure of religion is potent, and I think people should understand it before calling someone stupid for believing it. You are given all the answers to life so long as you can keep faith in those answers that are provided. Later, the fear portion of religion was introduced to me. That is when it started to unravel and I began asking the questions to where slowly it no longer made sense.
I later came to the realization that being good and morale can be done out of compassion for my fellow man and natural want to elevate my species. It makes more sense then to have that approach than to do it out of fear of punishment. For to me what matters is the actions of a person, how they practice their beliefs, not what those beliefs are.
So, I would be reluctant to merely pass religious people off as stupid. I may think they are wrong, but they feel a genuine sense of belonging and feel as if they are not alone. That is a very powerful feeling and will admit it is the one part of being a christian I miss. I just know too much stuff and have too many questions that will no longer allow me to have faith.
Relgions are fairytales for those who are too weak to accept that we cannot ever possibly comprehend the meaning and essence of the existence of a single grain of sand on a mile wide beach let alone the existence of ourselves.

RayfromUSA: Religion is what happens when people try to ignore God. Atheism is just another religion.
I dont see how Atheism can be classified as a religion since there is no church or ritual,no common belief, no scripture, no priesthood, no tradition, no founder, no creation myth etc Religion tells you what to think, not how to think.
I think that people need to believe in a religion is so that they have something to hold onto. Many feel they need a purpose in their lives, something to fall back on in hard times. Others are so afraid of dying without a belief system. To exist one day and then not at all another can be a scary thought. If there is another side to cross over to they still live on.

I assume you have some sort of irrefutable data to back up your statement or are you just another opinionated loudmouth with a prejudice against anyone who believes there is something greater than you in the universe?
So let's see your data that supports your position. Remember, demanding proof of my position is a weak cop-out on your part and will be taken as an admission of defeat.
If you have a problem with that look up the definition of "faith".
If Peter Pan wants to fly by and spew some dreck he can just keep flying.

I think you made the mistake of assuming that I have no faith whatsoever. I am absolutely open to the concept that there may be something 'greater' than me. So I cannot be by your definition 'an opinionated loudmouth with a prejudice against anyone who believes there is something greater than me in the universe', as this would mean I would be prejudice against myself.
In a universe so complex, I believe a free mind will find its own very personal and absolutely unique reasoning for our existence and even at our death we should be satisfied that this will not be perfectly complete since there are things we cannot ever phyically perceive or comprehend.
Mass worship of a single deity is for those who stopped trying to question and consider everything by themselves. They chose to build their reasoning based on faith that a set of prescribed reasonings were correct and not to be challenged.
From my perspective, faith therefore constitutes a box around the human mind that is preventing or inhibiting complete free thinking that will ultimately teach us more about the true nature of the universe.
Your immediate reaction was to aggressively defend your faith by being rude to me based on poor understanding of who I am and what I believe. Ironically, it is also one form of the evidence you have asked for. The mind that relies on faith is weak and reactionary when challenged with philosophy that returns an error from the faith processor. It intrigues me that people who preach love and tolerance one moment can then be so nasty and defensive.
Zellarrone1: I think they see it as a free insurance policy to heaven. So, I voted "Fear of Death"
... and another thing... Last week, I received a form through the post to apply for a job in a catholic school. Jeezuz, all the questions was about catholics, get a reference from your catholic pastor, etc, etc. I wouldn't even mind but I'm not a catholice
So, I just ripped it in half and sent it back, telling them if they were only bothered about recruiting catholics then they should have said so in the first place on the job advert
Teach them to waste my time
Also, 2 weeks ago, I was just coming out of my local launderette... and two flash looking blokes run out of the pub next door which is very rough by the way. They walk up to me and try to recruit me. So, I tell them to clear off as I don't need jehovahs bothering me when I've just had my duvet washed. In fact, I tell them I don't need bothering by jehovahs at any time. All I know is they must have been desperate to try recruiting in that pub
and that's my sunday moan about religion over for today

I suppose I'm suppose to be impressed and cowed by the above?
Let's have a peek at the post I responded to for some examples of rude behavior, shall we?

Let me put this in terms simple enough you might be able to grasp them:
If you throw rocks at someones house you should not be surprised when one or two of them come back at you.
Simple enough?
Now I realize that the stereotype Christian is supposed to "turn the other cheek" when a fake intellectual starts their bigoted little rants. Sorry, but I refuse to live by your script. You got what you gave. If you see that as unfair, welcome to the real world.
Feel free to try to spin what you've said already and put words in my mouth all you like. All anyone has to do is page back through the thread to see what was really said.
Go ahead make yourself look like a fool. Save me the work of doing it.
a famous doctor in maths TONY FEW spent 60 Years of his life not believing in god or trying to convince himself by convincing people that there`s no God which means no need for religion buy his book A TRIP TO A MIND and see if GOD EXISTS OR NOT.

I don't believe in any organized religion. I also don't believe in shoving my beliefs down anothers throat. But I do believe in something out there bigger than myself. Be it Mother Nature, the trees, people from another universe I call him God. Don't understand him much but I just know there is a reason for all of this.
