amahlala: While that looks wonderful in the Anchorage Daily News article; she did not really fight corruption and big oil. It looks like she did but all she did was carry on work that was already in the works.

Interesting. Could you provide some serious background information wsith some links to see this for myself please?

amahlala: She did start some good things but never really stuck around to see it through and honestly can you really trust that if Sarah Palin was elected the President of the United States that she would not "quit" when the going got tough?

'Tough' from my understanding was the frivolous lawsuits which rang her legal bill up over half a million on a Governor's pay of a hundred grand a year. I am certainly no economist but to have to sell your home and put your kids out on the street to fight these suits I doubt would enable her to spend much bandwidth on being Governor. On the other hand, Obama as President has a fund specificly for this and in fact, his defenses against various suits such as the birther deal were paid for out of this so, in Palin's case there would be no conflict.

So, you could be governor while your house was being sold out from under you and find an apartment to live, move, concentrate fully on the task at hand while caring for your kids knowing you may have to go into bankruptcy and possibly on food stamps?

Hi Alberta, I will look up what I can and post it later but as to your question of if I could be governor while my house was being sold out from under me and find an apartment to live, concentrate on the tasks at hand while caring for my children and possibly going into bankruptcy and possibly on food stamps...yes I could.

I faced that situation head on, when our trailer park was being sold to the highest bidder and I had to find a way to either sell my home (which due to the land being sold ~ was now seriously undervalued), give it up and still find a place to live, while working a full-time and providing for my children and paying my bills. I did it. And while I appreciate the situation that Sarah Palin was facing at the time; she was not the only one providing for her family...

This virtual obsession with US politics makes me wonder what's wrong with people outside the US. I've noticed a trend that's quite disturbing, too. People who talk about how much they hate America on one thread end up talking about how much they love the Democratic party on another. Are those connected, or am I seeing something that isn't there?

I don't like politicians in general, and I'm not a supporter of any political party; however, if the people who hate America and want to see us fall on our face or worse are supporting the Democrats, I should probably side with anyone but the Democratic party.

How would you be able to attend meetings and travel when you have kids living in the back of a car or whatever?

First off, kudos to you in a big way!

However, a half million is a lot of money and, attending court etc and on top of that, the legal bills were only what was owed, not what was to come.

A hundred grand, that what she made, am not sure what you made but she already owed the equivalent of five years pay with a probably further five years pay to come. If you made say .... thirty grand a year, you would have owed three hundred thousand and payable within a year or you lose all. i doubt you were able to do that and if you were, further kudos.

Were you faced with paying out ten years pay all within a year or so and wondering, juggling all this, you figure it would be fair to the people of Alaska to have her living out of the trunk of her car and still be the Governor as she beat off debt collectors, attending court, legal meetings and still be able to manage the states affairs with the proper attention required of such important matters? Myself, I think in this scenario, I think anybody else would be bette as I'd rather have a person who can devote the time and concentrate on the issues rather than be on the verge of a constant nervous breakdown from the pressure exerted by those determined to destroy her.

Alberta...while I do understand what you are saying (and I am still researching my facts on the other), I have been homeless (sans car) with children and worked through it. I have owed major debt in the past and been given limited time to pay it off or face horrendous back pay. Bill payments can always be arranged and attending meetings and conferences with small children can be done (even if homeless). Granted, Palin was facing a tough situation but then again so are a lot of people in this country and it is only gonna get worse for some, not better.

I believe that Palin tried to do good but just did not have the experience or knowledge needed to be an effective governor. handshake

Pretty hard to work your way through ten years of debt when you need to be in court all the time and, nobody will lend you the money needed to have legal representation because you don't have a home and can't cover the legal bills.

I have owed major debt in the past and been given limited time to pay it off or face horrendous back pay.

1. Not a million dollars but close to.

2. Why not let her change diapers and children in the hallways...does it really impede business? Might actually be quicker...lol

3. It sort of seems as if you are implying that Sarah Palin was a single parent without a husband and numerous family members in Alaska. Just saying.

4. And you are right, I was in the miniority.

5. And for the record; I am still researching my points.

Iuchi_Zien: Not enough space in the poll choices so written below,

#1 Noo! Please! Save us!
#2 Anybody that dumb should be barred from procreation as well as standing for public office.
#3 What's the problem? she's only slightly more stupid than George.W.
#4 She will make an excellent president, once she works out how to spell it!

1.What are the chances of Palin becoming the next president as a backlash against Obama?
2. If Palin is elected is it going to be possible to find an American, outside of the US who will admit to being American?
3. If Palin is elected how hard are the rest of the world is going to laugh?
4. If Palin is elected do you think the Russians will EVER stop laughing?

PS I've put this under current events, inspite of my personal opinion (not difficult to deduce) that Palin becoming President would actually be a comedy

I really liked Sarah Palin when I first saw her interviewed on TV. She was a feminine witty presence in politics and I had high hopes for her. I loved her glasses too.

Unfortunately she was not well versed with politics and that's kinda a prerequisite for the job. Having said that, Ronald Reagan was a US president for a time which I found astonishing - what would he have known about politics? If all the speeches are written for you and the decisions are made for you, perhaps knowledge of economics and politics is less important?

As an Australian I am interested in US politics and I do sometimes post on it here, although I'm no expert. Decisions made in the US often impact upon us, particularly economically and especially when the US decide to go to war.

If threads on US politics are in the international threads, there seems to be some invitation from the OP (usually American) for people from other countries to respond. The harshest critics of America here seem to be Americans themselves, but perhaps you and I have read different threads.

what's quicker is having somebody who can afford a place for her kids to live and can hire a nanny so she can devote full attention to the job she was elected to. I certainly don't expect my elected officials to live in cheap hotels, vehicles or do the above, I expect them to be paid well so there is no reason for them to be diverted in their attention away from the job at hand. If they are then it's time to get rid of them - or resign.

amahlala: 3. It sort of seems as if you are implying that Sarah Palin was a single parent without a husband and numerous family members in Alaska. Just saying.

You right, having seen what financial crisis do to families and the stress it lays on people would possibly have made her a single parent and the stress of this possibility certainly would not have been co9nductive to having a Governor who is able to devote full attention to running of the state.

Yes, I lived in a trailer park Alberta. I was an Executive Admin for a social service agency. And my bills stemmed from my youngest one's medical costs. Odd huh?

Is normal and 'ordinary' in your world being hunted by the liberal paparazzi and sued for frivolous reasons so that your reputation is on the line constantly in public view and, you have to pay off a million in legal bills? I find that strange to believe as I believe I am somewhat normal yet don't have reporters from the Huffingrton post moving in next door to me to report my movements.

As well, you owing almost a million dollars I wonder how you were able to pay off even the interest as at five percent would amount to over fifty thousand a year not even counting the principal but, I suppose your admin job payed well indeed. Palin wasn't so lucky.

Wondering, it must have been sheer hell for you and your children. If there had have been a way out such as taking another job which would have taken care of all those financial problems and saved your home would you have taken it or, was the social services admin job a locked in duty?

emmaline: Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

I truly believe Hillary will not give up her job as Secretary of State. Her time has come and gone to be president. Right now she is in much better position to get things done . Her age , also is another factor. In politics and a high demading position ages you fast. She still has a family and the possibility to become a grandmother,so she takes her position in stride, answers to no one and can live both lives , but Family is important to the Clintons. She has her life mapped out to her expectations.
