Jihadmeathello: K, and I am saying that the day reincarnation produces any sort of evidence or shows that there is any logic behind it (despite the fact that population grows exponentially should be enough to show that it is a massively flawed theory) I will entertain the idea. Until then, does it not seem like a waste of time?
Perhaps you are right, but it would be like a caveman pondering Nuclear energy. His theory maybe right, but he was not in the place of time to be able to measure or study the theory. He needed to learn from what he could and what was available. He needed to develop written language, math, physics, etc.. before he could test his theory. Just as I am saying, reincarnation is a possibility, but kind of pointless to focus on since even if it is a fact and not a theory, we are incapable at this stage to study or even approach it. My point is, that just because something is a possibility does not make it worth or time. Who knows, string theory maybe the tool we need to prove reincarnation right or wrong.
... entertaining an idea (that is neither proven to be possible nor impossible) that gives mankind a glimmer of a smile that there in fact COULD BE another life after this one is definitely worthwhile in my book ... For those not up to date on string theory
So what is the theory, then? . Think of a guitar string that has been tuned by stretching the string under tension across the guitar. Depending on how the string is plucked and how much tension is in the string, different musical notes will be created by the string. These musical notes could be said to be excitation modes of that guitar string under tension. . In a similar manner, in string theory, the elementary particles we observe in particle accelerators could be thought of as the "musical notes" or excitation modes of elementary strings. . In string theory, as in guitar playing, the string must be stretched under tension in order to become excited. However, the strings in string theory are floating in spacetime, they aren't tied down to a guitar. Nonetheless, they have tension. The string tension in string theory is denoted by the quantity 1/(2 p a'), where a' is pronounced "alpha prime"and is equal to the square of the string length scale. . If string theory is to be a theory of quantum gravity, then the average size of a string should be somewhere near the length scale of quantum gravity, called the Planck length, which is about 10-33 centimeters, or about a millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a centimeter. Unfortunately, this means that strings are way too small to see by current or expected particle physics technology (or financing!!) and so string theorists must devise more clever methods to test the theory than just looking for little strings in particle experiments. . String theories are classified according to whether or not the strings are required to be closed loops, and whether or not the particle spectrum includes fermions. In order to include fermions in string theory, there must be a special kind of symmetry called supersymmetry, which means for every boson (particle that transmits a force) there is a corresponding fermion (particle that makes up matter). So supersymmetry relates the particles that transmit forces to the particles that make up matter. . Supersymmetric partners to to currently known particles have not been observed in particle experiments, but theorists believe this is because supersymmetric particles are too massive to be detected at current accelerators. Particle accelerators could be on the verge of finding evidence for high energy supersymmetry in the next decade. Evidence for supersymmetry at high energy would be compelling evidence that string theory was a good mathematical model for Nature at the smallest distance scales.

I don't at all, I think clinging on to the hope that people will last forever makes some people lazy. I think realizing that there is a strong possibility and likelihood that you will just become worm dirt should motivate people to live meaningful lives and not waste it on frivolous and meaningless garbage that most do.
The counter question is, what if you did live your life in a way you found dull, boring, and un-meaningful, and then you did become worm dirt, and poof, life is gone. Did you live a life in a full way that was fair and just and one you can be proud of? Are you going to leave it to chance that you get another shot or are you going to take advantage of the one shot you have and make the most of it?
We don't know if there is an afterlife, or if we come back in another form, so to me, best be living this life we have now in a way that makes it meaningful. Cause if you don't, it might be in every sense of the phrase, a waste of life.

I am no quantum physicist, but I get the basics. However, I think discussing problems like how do you take a zero dimensional object based on a model of two dimensions (the guitar string)? Is a bit advanced for this class

... i give up ... u r simply reading things into my comments that are totally NOT there .. in some vain attempt to win some ridiculous argument you've created yourself out of nothing .... I liVE MY LIFE today with an abundance of daily enthusiasm .. & i don't take one second of it for granted .. I don't give a crap if this life is the only one i get .. because i plan to sponge up every single day of it that's left .. If reincarnation does in fact become a reality .. all the better.. I will continue THAT life in the manner I spend my current one..

I believe you made a thread asking people if they believe in an after life and asked them for their thoughts on reincarnation. I gave mine. Sorry if you don't like it.
Using our mind in carefully examining in what way does my body exist? At best I think you might conclude every aspect of my body exists in interdependent's. My name is merely a label and every aspect of my being is in a constant flux of change. So then in what way do I/we exist? My conclusion moving energy and it is moving energy that passes from life to life.
The fundamental bases of Christianity and Islam is reincarnation, (the resurrection), as it is in Hindu and Buddhist teachings. Reincarnation to my mind is driven by the certainty of the laws of cause and effect, its certain for as long as there being a cause.
No but I like the idea. Believing something to be true doesent make it a fact. I look in the nirror and think "handsome guy" but yet the CS women are not screaming like beatles fans at my window.
if the matter is not destroyed we can become(an ant?) something, in the materialistic sense. Towards of energy there is a possibility, however, would be a different life, I say without body
why is it that most people who claim to be reincarnated seem to always been someone famous in there previous life...why can't they have been an unknown janitor or something ?...

Many people have reported mundane past lives. In fact, the majority have done that according to all the Near Death Experience documentations I have read. I have yet to hear anybody say that they were somebody famous in a past life.
There are also different classifications for NDE's. For most people who had a NDE, their outlook on this lifetime changed for the better with a new perspective as well as having a healthy perspective towards physical death---they don't fear it and embrace it because they know what awaits them. Ah, much more to this. I'm too lazy to go into more detail, but I have been studying and researching this for years now.
