Yubba, maybe this will help understand the why's of the terrible disasters that are allowed to happen upon this earth. I had the questions you pose as well and being a believer in God and Christ.

The Christian answer may not suite your tastes, but it is hardly ambiguous. Having forsaken force, God is impotent to prevent the atrocities that we commit upon one another. He can only continue to grieve with us. He will offer Himself with all His wisdom, but He cannot make us choose to abide with Him.

The free will that God granted us is now being used by you. You chose not to believe in Him, that's the choice he gives you. Remember the counterbalance if there is good in the world there must be evil. God gave you the opportunity to choose, you may not see the results here on earth, but hopefully you will in heaven.......
