the best part of opensource is that everything is free for ever and there are several excellent softwares.

when you migrate to another OS your applications change also and you might already know this fact. what runs in blackberry will not run in nokia.

gimp is an opensource image editor which is as good as the pricy photoshop if not better.

being a techie i can understand the fear associated with linux. i would say it is pretty easy now even for a non-tech people to install and work with open source software.
