Maybe a compromise.
Prison and Community Service.
Not necessarily a chain gang but get them out to be seen by the general public.
It might help people to realise that facing the public every day in a prison jumpsuit is not desireable.
How about that.

Maybe in trials for members of criminal gangs where there is a likelyhood of witness intimidation or even to protect the identy of jurors.

I'd say that Xi Jinping's visit to Putin was purely about trade not about a peace negotiation although no harm if the west think it was.
Putin had cut supplies of gas to china because he got a huge market recently in India with a better deal and cost less on transport. He will now have raised his price to China. This is evidenced by Xi Jinping having to travel personally to Putin.
With this new deal Europe has been no loss and related sanctions now non-effective.

Exactly, he should have complied but surely the principal knew his form and that he wouldn't therefore it is evident that no good would come of it. Instead she went to court which lit the fuse.

Just step back for a second and look at the bigger picture.

Did they not realise that things could get complicated.
This is a perfect example of a difficult scenario which they should have prepared for instead of going off half cocked.

However it stems from how this issue is being handled.

It's one-sided and the teacher is suffering, but his whole family is too.

My point is justice is not apparent here.

I do remember back in September that it seemed extreme to sack the teacher instead of seeking mediation on such a delicate issue so I suspected there might be history between the school principal and the teacher. Maybe she used this opportunity to get rid of him. When he wouldn't go she took him to court.
Either way the justice system finds you guilty of contempt and jails you, which was bound to happen. Neither the child or the school principal blinked.
