RE: Soaring gas prices

This pipeline was for 'Dirty Tar Sands Crude Oil' which contains more gunge than oil. You really don't want this shit anywhere near you.

From the link:

"Keystone pipeline, gas prices, and oil exports."

"Dirty energy lobbyists claimed developing tar sands would protect our national energy security and bring U.S. fuel prices down.

But environmental reviews by both the Obama and Trump administrations concluded that the Keystone XL pipeline would not have lowered gasoline prices.

NRDC and its partners also found the majority of Keystone XL oil would have been sent to markets overseas—aided by a 2015 reversal of a ban on crude oil exports."

So it wasn't even for domestic consumption. It was purely for Capitalist gain using loopholes in the system in your country.

I think you should be relieved that it was stopped.

RE: Soaring gas prices

Fuel is petrol and diesel.

I added in the info on electricity as further evidence that the government HAS control on costs and benefits.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

It seems that people here actually resent hearing facts.

It's just information, not intended to put anybody down so relax.

RE: Soaring gas prices

The government here reduced its tax take on fuel two years ago. It's going back up now in stages because the price went down.
They also gave us lump sums to offset the cost of electricity. 2x300 euro each year I think.

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

This appears to be one of the first world countries but that's just economics, in reality there are a lot of poor families. The government has just doubled the number of primary schools getting free school dinners and is urging the remainder to take up the offer because teachers have been witnessing children arriving in school hungry.

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

One in four women don't have a choice.

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

I believe in adequate means-tested state aid. No child should suffer neglect. Not having children is Japan's dilemma, it needs a solution.

RE: Another Public Apology

Hi mer. You can't please all the people all the time. Just continue to be self sufficient but sociable, tolerant to a degree and nice when you can. Advice you get is an option to be considered, your choice. Your needs come first but flexibility is good. There is a saying "be the wind" but for me that is too flexible.
Another saying is that "happiness comes from within".
All the best. wave

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

"Difficulty with dual working parents due to business cultures."

I have read that women, not men, are expected to leave work to look after their children so they stay working as long as possible before starting a family meaning there is often no possibility of having more than one child. Their culture is the cause of this problem.

RE: UK & USA ELECTIONS THIS YEAR. UKRAINE?

"The signs are that if Trump wins he may not look favourably on continuing the supply of finance and weapons to Ukraine. This would put great pressure on the outcome of the war."

That's a quote from the opening post.

Looks like someone had a change of heart with a vote now due on Saturday.

RE: Soaring gas prices

Don't forget the Russian war in Ukraine started the price rises because of Sanctions. And the latest price rise is due to Ukraine attacking Russian oil refineries.
But governments probably have leeway in how they apply these price rises or if they choose to absorb them or pass them on immediately.
I think passing them on is the easy way out because people don't have a choice. Also the big oil companies could surely absorb the blips.

RE: Because the glove didn't fit, they had to acquit...

It was a clever idea (if they were planted) because even if for some reason on the day the gloves did fit that would make him one of approximately 1 Billion people who those gloves would fit, proving nothing, not incriminating him. But by being too small it basically cleared him.

Stating the obvious, I know. grin

RE: Israel is being attacked at this time

I didn't know that.

However this article is about Egypt's preparations for a mass exodus of Gazan refugees ahead of an Israeli attack on Rafah.
A compound is being constructed reportedly for them.
Egypt can only deal with refugees when Israel allows them through, which so far they are not.
If this is as it appears then credit to Egypt, or I may be reading it wrong

RE: UK & USA ELECTIONS THIS YEAR. UKRAINE?

That's likely to happen either way.
Let the Ukrainian people decide.
Russia can match everything thrown at it. They will take Kiev too.

China is playing a huge part in Russia's war on Ukraine.

"The officials spoke to Reuters news agency and said China has massively increased its sales to Russia of machine tools, microelectronics and other technology to Moscow.

These items are important because Russia is using them to make tanks, aircraft, missiles and other weapons for the war.

They also said:

About 90% of Russia's microelectronics came from China
Nearly 70% of Russia's approximately $900m in machine tool imports in the last quarter of last year came from China
Chinese and Russian entities have been working together to make drones in Russia
China is helping Russia improve its satellite and other space-based capabilities for use in the war. This could increase the threat Russia poses across Europe.

US President Joe Biden has previously raised concerns with Chinese President Xi Jinping about Beijing's indirect involvement in the war.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen returned this week from a visit to Beijing and said she had warned China that the Biden administration was prepared to sanction Chinese banks, companies and Beijing's leadership if they helped Russia's military in the war.

She has already been given the go-ahead from Mr Biden to sanction financial institutions that help Russia's military-industrial complex.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is due to travel to China for talks next month."

From Sky news.

RE: UK & USA ELECTIONS THIS YEAR. UKRAINE?

That quoted article was from the Gaurdian.

RE: UK & USA ELECTIONS THIS YEAR. UKRAINE?

Chinese leader using meeting with Ma Ying-jeou to promote peaceful ‘reunion’ as only alternative to annexation, say analysts

China and Taiwan are destined for ‘reunification’, Xi tells former president

Xi claims Taiwan as a province of China and has sworn to annex it, by force if necessary.

In the interim he has presided over a wide-scale campaign of political, economic and cognitive warfare, and near-daily military intimidation, in order to persuade Taiwan to accept Chinese rule.

Taiwan’s ministry of foreign affairs said Beijing’s “publicity campaign” couldn’t hide its ambitions to “eliminate Taiwan’s sovereignty”.

“External interference cannot stop the historical trend of reunion of the country and family,” Xi said, “there is no rancour that cannot be resolved, no problem that cannot be discussed, and no force that can separate us”.

Some people trust Trump while others trust Xi. C'est la vie. I suppose it's a case of who you like.

RE: UK & USA ELECTIONS THIS YEAR. UKRAINE?

It's time to ask the citizens of Ukraine.

A public vote is needed to decide whether to keep on fighting or to end it now.

Russian forces outnumber Ukrainian troops by up to 10 times in the eastern regions.

Ukraine's parliament passed a bill which will oblige Ukrainian men between 18 and 60 to update their personal data with the military authorities to allow draft offices to see more easily who can be called up in any given region.

The people should be given truthful details of casualties to date. So far families don't always know if their sons and fathers are still alive because they are often listed as missing.

They should be told what the chances are of winning the war and driving the Russians completely out of their land. And this should come from an independant source, not Zelensky.

Patriotism and pride is all very well, it makes for good fighting talk but reality must kick in at some stage.

When this is over it wouldn't surprise me if Putin looks for war reparations.

RE: How can anyone vote for Trump, when even his staff won’t support him.

I pointed out that he's unlikely to be able to change the Constitution and gave reasons why in case people were getting worried about the impending doom that was being spread. If that helped to put some peoples minds at ease then I'm happy. The ones who want to rant like hysterical turkeys will continue to do so because of 'free speech' which they abuse.

If you know it's rhetoric then why fall for it?

If it makes you feel better to hear my opinion of Trump then I will say that he is not someone I would want as a neighbour never mind a President but I won't join the Trump Haters Club.

Can you tell me how he will actually accomplish these things.

"They believe he will destroy the constitution."

And

"Trump will force dictatorship onto a once land of the free."

RE: How can anyone vote for Trump, when even his staff won’t support him.

Morning Gs.

I'm not pro-Trump or anyone else.

When I don't condemn Trump people seem to assume that I'm pro-Trump which is why I pointed out that I'm not pro-Trump.

I hope I've clarified that.

I am solely addressing the issue, not the person. Specifically the accuracy of the statement that Trump could change the Constitution.

I pointed out that it is unlikely he could "destroy" the Constitution and I gave reasons for my opinion.

If you still can't understand then I'm done here because the reactions from some are ott.

Did you contribute to the Lincon Project?

They raised $80 million in two years, mostly from small donations, probably from people who could only afford to pay a small amount.

They spent it on advertising from companies which were all controlled by the board members of the Lincon Project after which all but two of these directors have left.

In order to 'get' one grifter you get taken by a bunch of shysters.

I guess you just can't win. comfort

RE: How can anyone vote for Trump, when even his staff won’t support him.

The Courts in New York use New York State Law to prosecute Trump because it suits them. But when they don't get the Verdict they want from the Jury they twist the Legal Jury’s Verdict in order to achieve their desired wording.
If you want to see a recent example of this shenanigans look at the case of the 'Changing Room Affair'.

RE: Embroiled...

The heading of the blog is misleading in that Trump was not involved in this crime of fraud. The only mention of his name is in the name of the company which was to be merged at some future date.

Also share prices go up and down all the time so to disparage Trump for this is simply wrong.

RE: Is Donald Trump actually an Anti-Christ?

The provocation of the expansion of NATO and Ukraine applying for EU membership was the final straw.

As long as a country is at war they cannot join NATO, so Putin imposed war on Ukraine, and will maintain war for the foreseeable future or he will create a buffer zone, the eastern half (or third) of Ukraine which he will want to keep.

Are you saying that Trump can get two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate to approve a constitutional amendment? If yes please explain because I think it's unlikely.
