RE: "Where were you when..." No. 2

Doing one of my 3weeks Refresher Course in the Swiss Army.
Yeah,i know I am old,but definitely not Ancient.
But getting back to the Subject. We did not find out until that Evening in the Restaurant.
When asked, why we were not told of what happened by the Military, the answer was since the News were of a political nature and involved a Foreign Leader they were under no obligation to tell us.
Same thing happened the year before during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

wonder sometimes what the worl would be like if those three guys,John,Martin and Bobby were still alive.

I usually get sad when I see people like that, remembering the Heartaches when I was in that situation. When I used to drink like that

yes, when you have been through the Wringer yourself, you don't insist that other people are getting into the same predicament.
Then you ask a Lady what she'd like to drink and respect her choice.

RE: freshly baked bread!

yep,it's a "Kachelofen" Kachel for those nice Tiles.
Used to live in an old Farmhouse near Zurich as a Boy,where we had such a Contraption.Come to think of,my Ma did bake Bread in that a few times.
Never got such Bread again,a pity actually.
Yeah those Old Ovens. The Landes Museum up here in Zurich has a beautiful Collection of them. That really must be a Jewel of Kachelofen- Building in your House

RE: Unbelievers in Global Warming

not possible.
The Voltage from the Cells are Direct Current, the Network is Alternating Current.
Best thing to have two Systems in your House. An A-C System and a D-C System and use the D-C System from the Cells-Batteries for some Light-Duty APPS like Lighting, running small DC-Applications and such. Then use the AC from the Net for any High Power APPS that need AC like Fridges,Cooking and others, unless you have the opportunity to use Gas to do the Cooking

RE: Unbelievers in Global Warming

nope, they are Direct Current Devices and the Substances used in the Manufacture are also not exactly Environment friendly.
Add to that the Lead and the Acid and other Additives of the Batteries.

dunno confused doh

RE: Unbelievers in Global Warming

one problem with that scenario.
The Lead-Acid Batteries for the Storage. The Materials used in the Manufacture of the Solarcells, huge pollution Sources. Now if it were "Passive Solar Energy"we might have a good Case for Solar Energy. But not when the Chemicals to produce Clean Energy might be greater pollutants than the fallout from conventionel sources.
Inconvenient Facts,but true.

uh oh sigh

RE: 1st Aug .. NATIONAL SWISS DAY

that's the feeling I have been getting since I came back to Switzerland two years ago.
All the Traditions turned Upside down.

and Collectivism,or should I say "Gleichschaltung" will miraculously set us free?
The Other similar Experiments in History have all gone, some of them with a Whimper, some of them with a Bang, same of them with a Whimper and a Bang, but All Gone!
Europe is about 200 years and a Bazillion Languages too late.
Economic Treaties would have made much more sense than a Political Union. roll eyes

RE: Could you marry

One of the Ancient Greeks summed it up by declaring that "LOVE JUSTIFIES MARRIAGE"
Attributed to Pythagoras or his Wife Theano "For it is not marriage that sanctifies love, It is love which justifies marriage"

Sums it up nicely IMHO

RE: MORAL LAW....

you forgot the 28000 pounds "Daysy-Cutter"
Sad thing is not that the Weapons exist, but that they have to be used, since some people only understand Force as a means of Communication.
I have never accepted that a Mans desire to Kill me and my desire to Live are mere differences of opinion.
And as long there are Hordes of Svages aroun, believing they have a right to kill me just because I live differently or believe differently. any Means of Selfdefense IS proper. You won't get far with'Peaceprinciples' in the Face of some crazed Savage of any Persuasion.
Action speaks Louder than Words!

RE: MORAL LAW....

not sure there is such a thing as a Moral Law,since one is Moral by Choice, not by Coercion.Case in Point,a Bankrobber stops robbing Bans for the sole reaso of being afraid to get caught an going to Prison, will rob a Bank again as soon he is reasonably sure that it is safe to rob that particular Bank and get away with it.Only if he becomes convinced that his energy is better spent by Honest work will he change.Reward has alwas worked better than Coercion. So Morality cannot be made into Law,because it would always be Counterfeit, forced, coerced and therefore involuntary.Sorry if I pontificated, but I am the New Kid on the Block and somewhat feel like a Kid in the Candistore
