RE: Relocate to another planet.....

The nearest stars to our system are:

Proxima Centauri - 4.22 light years
Barnard's Star - 5.94 ly
Wolf 359 - 5.94 ly

Current information and estimates say that the fastest speed we can achieve today is about 45 000 mph or 72 405 Km/h.

speed of light (c)= 299 792 458 m/s = 5 514 982 057 368 km/y

Distance to the nearest star:

4.22 x 5 514 982 057 368 = 23 273 224 282 092.96 Km.

So, at our current maximum speed it will take:

23 273 224 282 092.96 Km / 634 267 800 Km/y = 36 693.056 years.

Who are these scientists that think we can reach that star in 10 years?

RE: canadain war policy

A minor correction if I may:

In both major conflicts of the 20th century it was the US that joined Canada and the Commonwealth - we did not join "their wars".

RE: Relocate to another planet.....

Don't take this the wrong way, Prairiegoddess but I'd like to see that program for the following reasons:

We have sent probes out to all of the planets in our solar system including several satellites of Jupiter and Saturn and none of the planets are anywhere near habitable. Titan, the largest moon of Saturn (reached by the Huygens Probe in 2005) has revealed an atmosphere and environment similar to earth but the atmosphere is toxic and the planet is incredibly cold. Also, there is no life.

No life has been found on any of the planets. Evidence of water has been found on Mars but this does not imply life exists or ever did. Mars also lacks any atmosphere.

There are no recorded probes sent recently or planned to conduct such a search and a single probe cannot reach all of the planets in a single mission. Even if it could it would take decades to complete a full survey.

Now, as to the question at hand though: I'd most certainly go if there was a new place to live. grin

RE: 7 day rule

Sounds like someone had a change of mind about the relationship for some reason and is too chicken to deal with it directly. Given that you are long distance and only connect via the ether or telephone it becomes even easier to just go silent and drop out of sight.

I don't know the details of your situation capevixen, but maybe your friend is feeling overwhelmed about being in a "relationship". Speaking from recent experience, I have felt that way if a girl starts to take things too seriously after only a short time dating.

RE: Lunar Eclipse...right now

Clouded out here...frustrated anyone see it?

RE: Lunar Eclipse...right now

Total eclipse begins for you at 5:44 PM

RE: The Queen

To name but one member of the Royal Family, Prince Charles is indeed active in philanthropic and charitable endeavors. Perhaps some should read a bit before passing judgement:

Also, last I knew, we in Canada are not paying anything to the Monarchy so what's the big deal?

RE: Lunar Eclipse...right now

details are:

penumbral eclipse begins: 20:18:11 UT
partial eclipse begins: 21:30:22 UT
total eclipse begins: 22:44:13 UT
greatest eclipse: 23:20:56 UT
total eclipse ends: 23:57:37 UT
partial eclipse ends: 1:11:28 UT
penumbral eclipse ends 2:23:44 UT

UT = greenwich mean time so deduct 5 hours in EST and so on.

sadly it's cloudy here...frustrated

RE: Put up or shut up.

The laws are structured to allow "freedom" of speech but not without a few caveats: namely that "free" speech cannot incite hatred or spread falsehoods.

In that respect it can be termed more accurately as "responsible" freedom of speech.

RE: Put up or shut up.

Ernst Zundel and his denouncing the holocaust and more recently, a anti-Muslim lecture in a Baptist church in Windsor are good examples of hate crime.

Both crossed the line of free speech when they actively and purposefully spread falsehoods or half truths to incite hatred against an individual or group of people.

Many also seem to have the opinion that free speech should exist everywhere on forums such as these. Wrong. There are and will always be, rules and guidelines set in place to preserve the tone of the forums and to ensure enjoyment for the membership.

There will also always be those that use their popularity to attempt forcing their views upon others. The internet gives them a broader audience and feeds their ego as long as there are those that continue to support them. Eventually, some are seen for what they are but, many like-minded people will always support them.

Que sera, sera.

RE: PRINCE CHARMING

1)Kind
2)Honest
3)Trustworthy
4)Smart
5)Funny
6)Attractive (to me)

hmmm...the recipe above is somewhat common and this is where the problem lies for some: namely, that they are looking for attributes that they themselves lack.

I've received email from, chatted with and dated women that enjoy my sense of humour yet, are dry and lifeless themselves. Others may like the way I articulate yet have trouble putting a single sentence together.

If one is seeking certain attributes then they had best be prepared to show the same. From what I have seen of her postings here, Kiss this Miss - for example as she posted this list - is qualified to ask for these qualities.
