RE: the greatest story ever told

that was such an unusually provocative movie. Real food was contraband (in one scene a citizen is reprimanded for having a small bag of rice in her house) and remember the scene where the small roast is on sale at the blackmarket for 30,000 dollars? I just borrowed this movie today, gotta watch it again. and we all know what's REALLY in those green biscuits, don't we?moping

RE: Texas Textbook MASSACRE !!

It looks like this thread is being monitored- posts are being removed here and there. I know this is frustrating sometimes, but I'm in agreement with the mods especially if the content is abrasive, hurtful. JMO..professor

RE: What is the most dangerous & insecure country in the world?

thumbs up

RE: Texas Textbook MASSACRE !!

For the longest time I didn't quite "get" this, until a friend who worked in government explained a lot to me. When you have a more liberal administration, i.e. human resources, Housing Assistance, University Assistance, and so on, there are more and more piles of paper, log books full of policies and procedures. The "joke" is that there are virtually volumes of encyclopaedia-type books discussing the importance and value of--you guessed 'er, chester, the need for a REDUCTION in paperwork! Kinda sorta don't make much sense, does it? (the manual for light bulb changing at the White House is 121 pages long....we are so goofy here sometimes,,,)

RE: I allowed myself to get pulled into neighbours dilhema

firstly?confused hello englishman

RE: "The day the music died"....

You're right, there's no single one that takes absolute importance. I did thoroughly enjoy and was inspired by June Carter. Janis was my first R & R love, the list goes on. I liked Jim Croce, Hary Chapin. Have you ever heard the song that goes, "If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know you'll have a hell of a band"?dancing dancing

RE: Texas Textbook MASSACRE !!

If you ever get the chance there is a movie titled "The Boy In The Striped Pajamas". Set in Germany during the Third Reich, it illustrates how the propaganda was able to obtain public complacency by making warm, endearing programs of the Jews and other concentration camp residents going to picnics, engaging in leisure fun activities, and eating wonderful, Thanksgiving-like meals. Of course this was staged and not at all true, as we know. But the people readily accepted it because it made THEM feel comfortable about what was going on. Propaganda is propaganda, regardless. Tell me something--why are people so against the liberals? Sure it isn't perfect, but isn't it better than too much control and strictness? Wasn't Liberty what we fought so hard for? Isn't it the lesser of two evils? Comments? I'm open, just asking. so be nice.

RE: What makes you happy ??

People who are down-to-earth, not phony. Warm, kind folks that's what makes me happy. Fortunately I have a bunch of really good ones here.

RE: Dating an artificial entity

If what a person is looking for is a "partner", why they've had these out for some time. As time goes on they get more and more real and life-like. Don't talk, you know, but man do they do everything else--there was a program on cable and it showed the whole shebang. I am telling you if what you want is the cake without the wedding this would be the ticket. Wow, did they look real, I was surprised the cable allowed it because the whole kit n kaboodle was shown. M and F. Great balls of fire!

RE: Say Something...No Names Need To Be Mentioned...

Hey there--I am so in the woods about these threads too. They go on for awhile, I come out of my shell and say this n that, try to participate, just like they taught us in kindergarten, trying to be one of the gang, and b a m, no more thread, no more post, like yesterday's trash. Just left in the middle of the desert with no 'splainin'. confused dunno folks just get tired of talking about one thing and dart over to another--the "coffee corner " ones are pretty good, also the riddles, fave songs, etc... I just don't get it when one particular thread is going real good and then I post something and then poof, it/s gone. anyone know ? love you, btw! (all of you goofballs!)handshake

RE: Newbie Alert

and that's just the appetizer! Welcome to our little shindig--hope you have as much fun as we do--hug

RE: Relationship and Religion

exactly right.thumbs up what you are saying is true, and although I do believe that love can be stronger than dogma, I do hear this side clearly, too. Religion can be a hang up, for sure.

RE: Great movie quotes.

Gene Wilder: "The name is 'FrankenSTEEN. Dr. FrankenSTEEN, '"EEgore"'!.
Marty Feldman: "Name's EYE GORE, Dr.-- '"EYEGORE"'. Walk this way, please".(hunches down).
Gene Wilder: "I'll follow you" (Wilder hunches shoulder and stoops while walking).

How come why for?

I've noticed something that happens on here quite a bit, a member will be participating in a form/thread and their pic, or the silhouette will be there and you can go to their profile. Then, all of a sudden, only their name is there, and you can't go to their profile (to e-mail or anything) but then later it all comes up again. Is this done by the member, and why? (latest I noticed, and I don't mean anything by this-just want to know-englishman55) thanx.....

Here I take all my time to find you a five-star top shelf CARD,
H E L L O ! and she sends you a wimpy skimpy flower. Some bud you are!

RE: how do I handle this?

sounds like you know you can be a bit of a bummer--lighten up. I just got back from showing respect for a young wife and mother who was killed. Your problem is nothing. Take it or leave it. Get on the sunny side of the street, it's a choice. professor

RE: how do I handle this?

thumbs up thumbs up

RE: how do I handle this?

I'll tell ya how it is but you ain't a-gonna like it----whatever you say to either that would indicate you want her to do/act/talk differently will be regarded as a negative and will drive a wedge deep into the friendship. People don't take directives well, and certainly not from anyone they view as being non-essential. Case in point: at work, even if the request of the other employee was polite, reasonable, minimal, and helpful to that employee, it was always regarded spitefully--"you're not my boss". You aren't going to get anywhere but on your friend's bad side with this one. Tolerate it or move.

RE: Right lets test this thing

You get a pass--thanx for sending the note back. You're a good guy, and a good sport, to boot. You made good on your word and that is a hallmark of a trustworthy person. Now, post in the IRISH forum, Casper!!handshake

RE: Right lets test this thing

Oh it's OK--you can kick me to the curb--I'll probably lose a couple nights' sleep over it and it'll shorten my life by ten or fifteen years, but I will get through it! (would have been such a lovely friendship, too. I just know it...s i g h ..........mumbling

RE: Right lets test this thing

Hey menu2--I just tried to send you a nice friendly card and you have everybody blocked--the thought was there, buddy. am I the only nice kid left around this popsicle stand? Lift the frou frou, daddy-0!

RE: Right lets test this thing

No--I think that's cool. I have a little bit of frustration with always feeling like I have to be the one to extend the hand in friendship (check your mail in a minute) and I kind of feel it;s very discourteous to not at least send a little note back, like, "hi, thanx for thinking of me, I don't really want pen pals, etc.. now, but I appreciate the effort, Jack, (or whatever)
