RE: Britain has a new Prime Minister

Hey, I,m just curious--what were the choices? Why do many British not like this new PM? Would the next strongest candidate have been better? (I really do not know--fill me in briefly on English current events. thanks)

RE: Virtual infidelity: who do you think is right?

your marriage is in disrepair. Find out if and how to fix it, or call it a day. A wife who gets love letters from an Italian friend is unhappy. As far as what do I think is right? well, she is not right, and this kind of privacy is out of line to expect in a marriage. You are not right, because you are talking to us, instead of her. Do your laundry at home. With your wife. The last option is cancelled out by the comments I made on the first two. (The Italian is NOT in the wrong, assuming he doesn't know she's married. I gather she lied to him).

70's TV Show

Yes! but what was the actress's name who played the mom? (I am LMAO at that guy's remark, "what did you mean by that"?--what a Delbert Gridley! Jeeze Louize..)mumbling

70's TV Show

I have been talking to a friend lately about retro-television shows. We are both fairly good at trivia, but neither of us can remember the following: There was a show about a single mother with two daughters, Valerie Bertinelli played a daughter, as did John Phillips daughter (forget her first name). What was the mother's real name, AND name in the show? What was the name of the show? thanx--

RE: What would you do?

thumbs up there is something really evil about a person who would ask such a question. Can you imagine the hurt and pain and sorrow they would be dredging up? Why would someone want to do this? Oh, I know, we are a nasty bunch, us humans. I saw terrible mind games and tons of nastiness toward unsuspecting people every day of my working life. And that was in a hospital. Where staff are supposed to be modeling tenderness, kindness, caring. This world is so screwed up. I wouldn't even answer this. Or the answer would be, "Get out".

RE: Does god hate us?

scold seriously folks, thanks for the comments regarding my post earlier. Of course many of you are correct in the overview. I do believe I wrote that it was "some of the time", kind of a wussy wishy-wishy way (say that twenty times fast without a mistake!)anyhow, of course your opinions are right, many people who find themselves at life's dregs don't give up or disbelieve in God, and many richly blessed people who are very comfortable don't give Him a second thought. No guarantees. Thanx for writing, I am educated enough to be quite all right with seeing every side and changing my thinking-- hug

RE: A quote that inspires you?

Just what is he doing out there in the woods and with whom?laugh

RE: Does god hate us?

It's easy to believe in God, and all the wonderful things that go with this belief, if your life is going well. Try telling a down and out homeless man who has been brushed off, denied employment, denied access to a restroom, ostracized, insulted, denied a place to sleep about God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit. Now, I am a believer, and my life has been very good, but it stands to reason that (many times, anyway) basic needs have to be resolved before a man can be open about hearing God's wonderful love, etc... RE: what song reminds you of your ex?

She got the ring- I got the finger

RE: what is your claim to fame

I've had a few brushes with celebrity-met Robin Trower recently (most Brits know who this rock star is), one of the most interesting was years ago in San Francisco. I was waiting for a shuttle to take me to the airport in one of the hotel garages. Natalie Schafer was the only other guest waiting. Of course she was getting a limo. (she played Mrs. Howell on Gilligan's Island). We talked for a couple of minutes. She was very sweet.

RE: Scientist that believe in God

I was fair to each side. Perhaps it could be said differently, i.e. "collective sense of karma", but the essential idea is there (what goes around comes around). I understand you wanting to refute the area in bold; I believe I made it clear that not all atheists think this way. Some may really simplify it in terms of good being its own reward and evil being its own reward.thanx for your comments. I hope you understand that i am not disagreeing with what you are saying, just trying to get my point of view across, somewhat cumbersome, I admit. sorryhandshake

RE: Scientist that believe in God

Wow did this topic ever develop a life! Some of you may already know that my beliefs are spiritual, although not mainstream (to organized religion). This is just a thought, and not intended to be negative or provocative: It's a bit convenient to be an atheist--where's the consequences for doing harm? (Christians, and other spiritual 'believers' have a collective sense of karma, as it were. Atheists appear to have a "que sera sera" view. Kind of implying that there's this, "if I step on you to get where I need to go, that's OK, because it's all about me and what's the difference if there's no God, who cares"?) On the other hand, even if believers are misguided, or whatever, there's a constant sense of not wanting to hurt anyone, that "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Now, I understand that there are some atheists who would say that one need not believe in a supernatural power to still have a sense of right and wrong. AND, plenty of so-called Christians are crumb bum turdballs, as well. I think if an atheist died and found himself in front of God, and said, "No, sir, I didn't believe in you. But I WANTED to." God might just smile. know what i mean, jellybean? teddybear

RE: who will win the election?

[quote=mindfful Most of my working life was in non-union jobs, but I did work at union "shops" several times. There's some real problems with the employer (the one who pays you) being told how he can run his business. Employees with seniority get paid much better, whether they are doing an adequate job or not. An employer can get stuck with a real turdball of an employee who nobody can stand just because of union rules. (It is almost impossible to out and out fire a union employee--I have read complaints that would make your hair fall out and the culprit stays another 15 or 20 years.) Still, there are those employers who are completely unfair, and that is why unions were established. However, if I had worked hard and saved my money to buy or start my own business, I would not like it that another entity out there could sidle in and make my rules for me. Put yourself in that position. Would you appreciate that?

RE: who will win the election?

No kiddin'. We just had a raft of that same over here. No one seems to lose their job over it. Just usually get paid leave. Oh I get it--the penalty for taking what isn't yours and not doing your job is to get given what isn't yours for not doing your job!! Nutty nutty world. (a college administrator here some years back was found guilty of stealing the poor students' funds for tuition, and let go. And continued to be paid full salary for 2 and 1/2 years afterward. WTF, I say WTF!!!!!!doh

Trying to find a recent quote--re: religion

Nailed it. Thank you very much.handshake

Trying to find a recent quote--re: religion

Hey everyone--I am trying to find a recent post regarding spiritual beliefs, etc... what I remember is it went something like:

"If God cannot stop wars, wrongs, then He is not omnipotent. If He can, and chooses not to, then He is not caring...." and it goes on with many other questions/comments.(I don't necessarily agree with the quote, but it was thought-provoking. Anyone know it, if so please tell me or direct me to the thread it was used in. thanx ro

RE: A quote that inspires you?

there's another one I really like but I am not sure if I have it correctly--it's something like:

"The mark of the truly admirable man is how he treats a man who can do him no good". (did I get this right? If you know how it is supposed to read, please tell me. thanx

RE: A quote that inspires you?

"...that special kind of love, that real love, makes anybody WANT to sacrifice"...Janis Joplin

RE: A quote that inspires you?

"I love man not the less, but nature more"....George Gordon (Lord Byron)

RE: Just lost a friend named Joe

He lives in NEW YORK? and he's still alive? What are THOSE chances, with that kind of an outlook? Can you imagine..."Yo, can ya tell me what time it is"?
"What'd ya mean by THAT? Ya oughta KNOW!" wow. New York. and he's got a problem with light conversation? Talk about a square peg in a round hole. Some people's kids...

RE: Protocol ?

Pretty good answer, could use a little adjustment, if the situation were right. (sometimes it would be nice to pay, even if it were a friendly meeting. If a woman I liked but was shy around up and asked me out, I think I would insist on paying! but you're right--I wouldn't HAVE to).

RE: Protocol ?

Wow--you got my thought processes flowing--I don't think there is an umbrella policy on this, but here goes on how I view the overall situation: It does not matter whose income is greater. That's not the idea. The rule of thumb about asking anyone to accompany you for coffee, lunch, dinner, taking the neighbor's kid to the zoo with your family, etc... is that it is fair to assume that the person asking will be paying. Just my opinion, but at least on the first date, I would feel out of line saying, "Would you have dinner with me at Marcel's? We'll go dutch!"(a little classless, don't you think?)

RE: Just lost a friend named Joe

If that is all you asked, and it wasn't in a hateful or sarcastic demeanor, then WTF? Sounds like goofball gum to me. Mommie's pommie. Don't be freak flypaper, hon. Flick him off your sleeve like a dry booger. He sounds like WAY too much trouble. His reaction was outrageously juvenile. What a gomer...thank God and the Heavens for delivering you from this padinsky. hug

RE: who invented the pizza?

You betcha. And look at all the colloquial terms: Chicago Stuffed Pizza, New York Style Pizza, etc... I just researched a tad and came up with this: Originally the Pizza Pie was on a thick soft crust, tangy tomato sauce, fresh oregeno and parsley, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices, black olive slices, anchovy fillets, tomato slices, and get this, a large sunny-side up egg plopped in the middle.

RE: who invented the pizza?

Hint: It's Big. It's Hot.It looks Great! It's READY! and can be very messy, but I'll do it again and again!

RE: who invented the pizza?

we'll see you in a bit, because I am stepping out for.........can anybody guess?

RE: who invented the pizza?

stay on task please. Focus: pizza pizza PIZZA. Do not look to the right or to the left, forge only forward, and repeat, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, what do we appreciate?
PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA! Yay!!dancing dancing dancing pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza

RE: who invented the pizza?

This is what I heard, too. Used to go to a Greek restaurant all the time, the owner (from Greece) said that pizza was a Greek invention, too. Sounds likely to me...
(Try rosemary chicken with feta cheese pizza sometime--yummy yummy yummy...)

RE: Are you a highly sensitive person (HSP)

I love Nature documentaries, especially the really high quality ones from the UK,; ones by National Geographic, too. BUT, when the lions or cheetahs or the like catch the baby gazelles and such, I have to turn away! Guess I'm a wuss!

RE: Who makes the Quality Electric Home Applainces ?

I'm sold on Hobart appliances, Westinghouse and Fridgidaire are tied for second. I have heard, and it is also my opinion, to stay away from department store (sorry, don't want to risk having the thread locked by negative specifics!) brand associated appliances. As far as country that makes the best--I have heard Sweden is top shelf, as well as France and Germany. Smaller appliances, such as toasters and coffee makers are best from France, I have heard.
