RE: What is the most popular sport in the world?

I was just wondering if there really is a way to tell which Sport is the most popular. I voted Soccer, because of the many variations, football, etc... and every country seems to have either football or soccer, especially the ones that are the most telecast. UK, OZ, USA, BRZ, ARGT, etc.....) However, car racing seems to have really expanded, all the ____'nationals in Miami, Calif., Indy, also very big in France, Germany, you know. Golf is huge in US, all of UK, OZ. (Is there a for real answer? I'd be interested. Also, as Sports go, doesn't the overall footprint of all Sports change from decade to decade. When I was a kid baseball was THE number ONE sport--hands down.handshake

RE: whats the first Albums you bought with your own money ?

How far is Tuscany from Coos Bay? can I swim there?

RE: What do people "REALLY" want??

thank you Jeepers. I really, really mean that.hug

RE: How do these people survive?

Here's a classic (and it's true)

During a military physical, the army doc said to the recruit, "Drop your skivvies, bend over and spread your cheeks". Dutifully the newby placed his hands on either side of his face...

RE: What do people "REALLY" want??

I'm not sure there is a pat answer, but I do know that more and more people are wanting HONESTY. Seems to be an anchor for so many other things. I mean, you can have the best looking, groomed, sophisticated person in the whole world but if he/she isn't truthful, nothing they can do makes it right. JMO--

RE: How do these people survive?

Does anybody remember the episode on "Married With Children" where the character played by Christina Appleby was working in the candy factory? A big pile of rejected M&M's was growing larger. Her work partner asked, "Why are you tossing those ones out"? She replied, "Oh can't you see? They all have 'W's on them! DUH!"

RE: DO SOME OF US TAKE THE FORUMS TOO SERIOUSLY

One of my fave quotes from Benjamin Franklin: "There are more old drunkards than old doctors". No kidding. Stress is bad for ya! Learn to live, laugh, love. Life really IS too short. Have a good day----cool

RE: What do woman want in "BED"

The final analysis: she wants him to take his time - even the Bible eludes to this "art" (see "Song of Solomon") and, gee, I really don't want to get banned (!) but I will chance saying this much: When it is apparent that it is 'time' then he needs to line it all up right. If there is a question about this then it is time to read up a little. But I think you get the picture....

RE: Any of you lost your job / got laid off?

Good thread, and relevant for our times. I had to retire early due to illness, but all the years I worked seldom was I "looking" for work. On the contrary, it looked for me. Granted, I worked in a professional capacity in the medical field, and made what was considered in Oregon to be a more or less fair salary. (about 42,000 per year for 2 years of college and a required license/certificate). Now I live on just under one half the take-home amount I had been accustomed to. So many things can be done to make a situation better. For example, I watch what money I have extremely close, and find that there are really very few "things" I really need. Second hand stores are chocked full of almost anything and everything you could ever want or need, and the prices are usually low and/or negotiable. My grocery bill is now slightly over half of what it used to be, and I eat very well. Not very many trips to restaurants (the price, even low, of a meal out is equal to about 3 or 4 meals you can fix at home). An electric blanket, instead of turning the heat up, is far less expensive. We are talking pennies on the dollar. See, for example a few things that can be done:

1. quick meals/microwave,etc. 18.00-Home-made: 5.50
2. movie out or rentals: 11.00- library checkout-free
3. men's shirt-mall market-20.00-40.00-resale shop-1.00-7.00
4. motel/hotel mini-vacation-225.00-campground outing-36.00

Many people are finding their lives again because of this economic crisis. Halleluia.

How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?dunno

You got it--but of course it doesn't work that way. I'm just ornery enough to want to say to the guy in the left lane, "Hey, I agree that it's technically a passing lane. So why don't YOU get out of it, too? (got it?)professor cool thumbs up

RE: What would a Great First Date Be?

I know- and since posting this I talked to a civil employee here I just happen to know a little. She feels that it should not matter who, what, where, when or how, as long as the meter has money in it. She does not think it should matter how long---my problem is that , whether you like it or not, it is clearly POSTED that any one car cannot exceed the two hours. To contrast this, think of a similar legal situation: When driving, even the police will tell you that "slower traffic moves to the right". (You cannot bogart the far left lane-and must leave it open for cars going faster). Of course the argument (which I totally agree with) is that the sign does not say, "Speed Limit 55 ((except for a**hole in the left lane")) now does it?? Know what I mean? handshake

Hello buds--I have been thinking about writing an editorial to one of our local newspapers concerning a human-interest story. The skinny on it: a nice, well meaning young man has been plugging meters in an urban downtown area. He had a verbal confrontation with the peace officer (a woman) and was of course, cited for interfering with city business. He has requested an advisory jury, which is unusual in a case that would normally not warrant this type of hearing. Now, I'm a very liberal once-upon-a-time beatnik sort, so my maverick view of the world makes me want to take his side. However, I also have to agree with the city because this action, similar to many other civil misdemeanors, is really unquestionably belligerent and confrontational. (If we run a stop sign, we get a ticket. If we go faster than the posted speed, we get a ticket...and so on) I fully understand that he was trying to be a good guy, and help others by preventing their cars from being towed or ticketed, but the meters are clearly posted that one is not to park longer than 2 hours. This is a fairness issue for a cosmopolitan area, where parking is at a premium. Your thoughts, please? thank you

RE: SHERRIF JOE GOOD OR BAD

I guess the inmates at Sherrif Joe's don't usually come back, so that kind of proves his way is more effective. (About ten years ago I researched a paper about the "revolving door" of our jails and prisons. At that time it was about 62 %. Uncool.) Still, I don't know if I think I completely agree with Sherrif Joe's entire way of doing. dunno just being honest.

RE: Should a couple stay in a Relationship if they are always fighting.

Right On.thumbs up Haven't people learned by now that Life is just too short to waste in such consternation and miserable fighting and being critical of your partner? I mean, come on, is that really a good way to live? I have been around a long enough time and have seen this way too much. They are not happy. So just leave and find someone else and remember "it is better to be lonely alone than with someone". I can't believe people stay together who seem to really hate each other. I don/t get it.confused

RE: How men think.

May I add one more?

NAGGING DOES NOT WORK. MEN HATE IT, AND WILL DESPISE YOU FOR IT. THEY WILL LEAVE. Yes, I know it looks like shouting, but this is something I have personally seen totally wreck otherwise beautiful relationships, at least two of them long marriages. Stop the nagging! Find another way to get your feelings, wants and needs across--I cannot stress this enough--your man will leave or at least find comfort elsewhere--trust me. professor

RE: Woo HOO!!!

I was just wondering--do you (or anyone you know) have those underground habitats, etc.. bomb or tornado shelters? I remember seeing an old Mechanics Illustrated that had plans for these, and it showed some in Oklahoma--around 1959 or 1960.

RE: The Dog Whisperer

There's a woman in the U.S. who has made quite a name for herself training dogs--Barbara Woodhouse. Several books and t.v. specials and she does seem to have a "way" with dogs.
