Maybe , but the olive oil the sell in Europe, is generally mixed with different varieties of olives & second or third press olives , this not creating the uniqueness of the first press black gold , as we call it . The good stuff is never sold in shops !
It's not something readily available in shops Molly .. The syrupy consistency is unique only to the Greek islands & you have to know someone you either produces it , or press it yourself. The last time I visited Cyprus I went to the factory, where they press the olives on the traditional stone press & I swear , you could smell the aroma a mile away

There's nothing like the taste of real locally produced honey . Tasted some on my recent visit abroad & haven't tasted anything as authentic as that since my childhood days in Cyprus. My uncle , god rest his soul , was one of the biggest producers of organic honey .. Saying that , I have a good friend who has gone back to Cyprus to press his olive growth & hopefully, he'll bring back the first press olive oil, which to those who are familiar, is called black gold !
