Well... It depends on the country. In Sweden, for instance, bought food of whatever quality is more expensive, than self cooked. Though my impression is that it's not the case in USA, there you can acquire a lot of junk for a song, while buying ingridients and preparing a proper meal isn't cheap.
Still, it's not an excuse: junk is junk and you are what you eat (and drink).
I quit cold turkey for 1.5 years ago. Saved ca 2300 EUR during this time (conservative estimate, as cigarette price went up a couple of times since that).
