Actually in their busy periods it is often difficult to find parking. I really must find time to go and do a mine tour there soon. And I haven't been on the train in years.
So, when the locals call you with their problems, do you have soft banjo music playing in the background?
The Australian term for a train spotter is gunzel.
You work with the Walhalla locals ? Or do you mean the rail enthusiasts that volunteer there? There are only a handful of residents in that town, it gets very cold to live in, and it's a 'long way from Kansas'.
By the way, the Texas I was referring to earlier was in the US. ( I should have clarified, I have never been to the one in Australia)
You DO realise that if those slippers are yours, that's quite a legacy! They are one of the most iconic pieces of memorabilia in the history of movies....
Like the Stratford on Avon Railway bridge? I believe from memory, that it's the second longest trestle bridge in this state. It's also still in use. However, it limits the trains that are able to go across it, thus limiting the service. Of course, with the cost of infrastructure to replace it, it's there to stay.
As for restoring them, Walhalla is probably the best example of restored railway works in Gippsland. It's also worth a visit, the town is quirky and exceptionally beautiful... And you get to ride on an old train through breathtaking scenery.
I had not heard of Thirlmere... but I just looked at a few websites. There is a festival every year in March that looks brilliant. Obviously next year, March is out for me because I will be in Thailand the weekend that it is on.
About eight years ago, I started life again with two cases of clothing. My books and Cds are my personal fascination and I seem to be accumulating both.
As for holiday destinations... one of my favorite is Texas, I went to some small Railway towns there. Not that I am a rail enthusiast... I simply like small towns. However, in Australia we have our own share of interesting places. I went to Warrnambool recently and found it rather captivating.
I worked today... I didn't even look at the list of horses. I was meant to go for drinks after work, I had a couple of invites...but instead ... lol... I came home and napped. I just finished my eighth day straight. Woo hoo... Only another eight to go!
You do realise that Melbourne Cup is the hardest horse race to bet on???
Let's face it, you weren't overly concerned... All those women in skimpy dressed to look at.. it would have been , "What horses? There were horses??"...
Daisy Bates is well remembered. I was chatting to a co-worker who used to work for 'Centrol' in SA. ( Train Control) I mentioned to him that my parents had lived there, and he told me that it was one of the few things remaining in the town, a memorial to her. Of course, I knew nothing of the town, other than what my parents had told me... and of course, some black and white photos. My father worked for the Railways there. I repeated the conversation to my mother, then told her how all of the house have been removed.
My mother recites interesting stories about the tea train and her experiences of the hardships they faced with limited food. Of course, I have a book about Australian Railway Stories that also tells similar stories from all over Australia, and how it was early on.
I guess it's another reason I want to go and experience some of the outback... to re-live, albeit second hand, some of my parents experiences.
I have actually heard of this. My brother was born in Ooldea. I always wondered if his erratic behavior could be because of the vicinity of that radiation.
I have plans to go to SA in Spring to see the flowers, I have heard they are sensationally pretty.
Incredibly the band is still one of the most popular in the world four decades after they were touring. I know very little about the history of music... In fact, I know very little about music, other than what I have stumbled upon for reading. I know culturally it's important.
The business side of the industry sounds rather cut throat. I just went to have a quick look at the conception of the business, it seems it began in the year of my birth ( I wonder if that will help me retain the information for further application) and it is still a viable business.
So, do you believe that we should expect more from the artists? Because it seems historically there were some brilliant ones that just worked together and seemed to succeed effortlessly... like the Beatles. However, now reading what you just typed, it seems there was more going on behind closed doors than I was ever aware of.
I believe this is where I give you an 'apple' and sit in rapt attention , awaiting the next lesson, John?!
John, I may say this badly...but what I like about that generation is how 'pure' the music was. The lyrics were simple, easy to sing along to... and the melodies were simple You could simply enjoy the music without having to analyse the intention of the artist.
My ex was in Street Machine years ago with an American conversion. That was his moment of fame. It was also the reason that my brother accepted the marriage.
All kidding aside, he always led me to believe that the best converters were in Sydney, but times would have changed.
Yes, it's a lot of money for a dream. However, it's your dream... So really it's up to you. I would probably take that down to Phillip Island and use the track. Although I am sure you have local tracks so you can push it a little.
I believe that, I just read the stats on the car. It was originally the Plymouth Prowler. Conversions are always a bit of a worry, you have to choose someone very reputable to do the work. I can see why the car appeals to you, but then you are limited by our speed limits... And you would want to take that car out and push it's limits a little.
Interesting shape. Knowing what I pay for a new European car in insurance, I know that's going to hurt you with insurance... and that's beside the cost of the car...but you will own something unique.
If that's your dream, maybe you should just go for it.
