Obviously I read a lot of reports... And as I have lived in Swan Hill and Wangaratta ... the road is a familiar one to me. I think the driver had just returned from Leave, so he was in a very relaxed state. There were contributing factors and it's difficult to explain how things occur at times. I would not have liked to be the one deliberating in court over the outcome of that accident.
One of our advertising campaigns for safety was "Trains don't swerve"... but then... If you look at the biggest railway tragedy this state has had for years, it was with a truck in Kerang. The truck didn't avert the accident even though it could do those things.
