There are just as many atrocities going on in other middle eastern dictatorships like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and the UK and US governments are quite happy to do business with them with no threat of invasion.
And lets not forget just who originally trained and armed the Talliban and why! Odd how we didn't see them as terrorists when it was young Russian soldiers being sent home in body bags.
And the twin towers were hit by Saudi nationals led by Bin Laden who's family just happened to have a cosy financial relationship with the Bush family.
As for the opium, may I remind you that Ireland is an island and we have 2 politicians in the North, McGuinness and Adams who probably know every conceivable way of smuggling everything from people to arms and drugs on to the island. Put them in charge of the customs and excise. Afganistan has not been winnable for centuries. The Brits beat a hasty retreat in empire days. Then the most highly trained troops in the wermacht in world war 2 followed by the Russians. What possibly made Bush and Blair think they could succeed. Perhaps there's more money to be made in a war you can't win!
Jaysus, that's so simple and straight forward it's brilliant but you can bet your bottom dollar that certain people with certain political allegances would find a way of running their businesses constantly close to the edge to avail of cheap labour.

Personally, I like the idea of a Meritocracy but I have no idea how you would value an individual. You couldn't use money as a mesure as my system would value a nurse above a lawyer and a home help above a banker. It really would be a difficult one and I should really have thought this through before I posted!
