RE: Obama Health Care Speech

First of all that girl Peggy is totally misinformed, but more importantly, you are doing yourself a big disservice by mocking on Obama's name by calling him "Nobama" because the moment you do that you set the tone of the debate to antagonistic and it ceases to be a debate but a fight. People will know your position by your words which they will read and absorb but the moment you start name calling all that comes to a screeching halt and I for one just stop reading anything you have to say.

RE: Obama Health Care Speech

There was a brisk business of Americans buying drugs from Canada. Then George Bush met with the Canadian PM Martin and struck a deal to ban the import of lower priced drugs from Canada if Martin would lift the ban on Canadian beef exports into the US. They call that quid pro quo (you bend over for me, and I'll bend over for you). The Canadian cattlemen were ecstatic, the big American drug companies were ecstatic. Who got sold down the river? Our own beef producers and any American who needs medications to live. I'm sure Martin & Bush were handsomely rewarded for this bit of chicanery.
Lifting the ban on Canadian drug imports would help lower the cost of healthcare reform.

RE: More Congressional Mathematics

I agree, the clunker program was not a great idea. Most of those cars were not even being used which makes the metrics even worse. I wonder who's brainfart this was and no I seriously doubt Obama came up with this one. More likely some exec from GM or Chrysler. It has the smell of Bob Nardelli CEO of Chrysler.

RE: virus

I've had good results with F-Secure and Kasperski's online scanner but it took forever when I was on dialup.

YOU LIE! Another out of control SC Republican loses it.

What is it about South Carolina Republicans? First the Govenor Mark Sanford leaves the country to shack up with his "HO". After he disappeared, his staff first said he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It later emerged he had traveled to Argentina to be with his lover, leaving his family over Father's Day weekend.
You might remember it was me who broke this story first here. Don't worry, I got your back.

RE: wasp spray????

I bet that would be good for convenience stores and liquer stores too. What if they can't get to a hospital in time, do they go blind? This could get expensive.

RE: Utopia or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure ?

I'm sorry if you interpret what I said as bashing you. That was not my intent. I was only questioning your motives. I was also trying to explain the mechanism of intense fervent belief in something whether it's god or satan or allah or santa claus. I really couldn't care less what you believe.

As far as my beliefs go I don't "believe" anything! Not even what scientists claim as truth. I accept their theories as being the most plausible or logical at the moment but I'm prepared to chuck it all in a split second if a more plausible or logical theory comes along in fact if you care I can give you an example of one that was recently replaced for me. It involves Plate Techtonics you know, continental drift?

For years in fact from when plate techtonics was first confirmed by overwhelming evidence relating to the earths magnetic pole reversals being mirrored on either side of the Mid Atlantic Ridge, it was assumed that the upwelling of magma from the earths core was pushing the North American continent apart from Africa. This was so logical that noone questioned it, it just made so much sense. Well, recent studies done in the Marianas Trench in the western Pacific
have led scientists to conclude that instead of pushing North America to the west it is actually being pulled by the weight of the crust diving back down into the core. This is why the Mid Atlantic Ridge keeps cracking open and spilling more magma out without forming a mountain range. Out with the old, in with the new. This is the beauty of science. Religion has nothing like this. Just the same tired old scriptures that nobody even knows who wrote it but they are willing to die for it.

What's the difference between a blog & a Forum thread?

Thank you vixon. Makes sense.

RE: Utopia or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure ?

Mike, you seem to care a lot more about what other people believe or especially choose not to believe than they care about what you believe. Why do you care if people don't believe as you do? You can't say you don't care because if that were true you wouldn't keep starting these threads.

The only effective way to indoctrinate people into believing a certain thing is to begin when they are toddlers and control everything they hear or see until they are fully brainwashed. Sorry, I know you must really hate that word. The people on this site are all grown up so it's really too late for this to work now. I seriously doubt there is one non-believer who follows these religion threads who has become a believer in god. Quite the opposite I think. With all the clearly logical comments made by people who don't buy the lie it wouldn't surprise me if many believers are beginning to have doubts.

Have you seen "The Manchurian Candidate"? It really shows how people can be made to believe anything and do anything as long as you do a thorough job of directing their thought processes.

It's the same method that is employed to induce a person to strap 10 lbs of C4 on their bodies and detonate it. This is convincing proof that mind control is truly one of the most powerful forces in human experience. Those priests from 1000's of years ago learned this trick and they perfected the art creating all kinds of demons and punishments to get people to do their bidding and support them so they could walk around in nice white robes and not work a day in their life.

Emotional fervor touches a very deep part of the brain and you don't have to be a believer to feel this. It's the same thing that will induce a mother to jump in front of a car to save her child or a soldier to throw himself on top of a hand grenade to protect his buddies. This is why churches have these "services" every week. To provide a fix (reinforcement) for their flock just like a drug pusher. All you have to do is look at the faces of the congregation when the preacher is going strong, some of them will be crying like babies. Scientists have studied this phenomenon and they have even mapped the precise location in the brain where these activities occur. Once you get a person to believe in something strongly enough they will defend this belief no matter what is presented to them that casts doubt on it. Many investors in the stock market fall into this trap. It's called falling in love with a stock. No matter how much bad news they get and how low the stock falls they hang on because they believe it will come back. A lot of the people who invested with Bernie Madoff thought of him as a god.

What's the difference between a blog & a Forum thread?

I always thought a blog was owned by the one who created it and could delete it or link to it or even sell advertiseing space on it. What passes for a blog on here seems not much different than a thread. Am I missing something? Also, why do people do blog entries and never post in the forums and vice versa? Are they skeered? Or are they possessive?

RE: virus

I totally agree on combofix and malwarebytes and zone alarm and spybot but what don't you like about tea timer?
I don't run firefox because my stock trading platform doesn't like it so I live with IE.

RE: THE MAN IN THE GLASS.....

That was a really well written poem and so true. Someday I hope I can write as well. But for now I guess I must content myself with such as this. At least any older gentleman who reads this will know what I'm feeling at times.

The Man In The Mirror
by Tom W

Who's that old man in the mirror
looking back at me?

That's surely not the face
I ever thought I'd see

Where's the little boy
I used to know so well?

If only you could speak
surely you would tell

I can wipe the grimey dust
that settles on the glass

But how to wipe away the years
that have come to pass

Goddamn you mirror
why DO you treat me thus?

Go ahead, who cares
mock me if you must

RE: Why do we need Government?

If I wanted to get stinkin rich I sure wouldn't go into politics. The presidents salary is $400k a year. by comparison the CEO of American Italian Pasta Company (never heard of it huh?) makes $2,024,455 in total compensation.
The CEO of Aflac made $10,783,232 in total compensation.

Nope, it aint the money. Why would Nelson Rockefeller want to be Governor of NY State?

POWER

RE: Why do we need Government?

Without government you would have anarchy. Government is there to do the big jobs that the individual can't do like defend the country from aggression, enforce laws, mete out justice, take care of people too old, sick or poor to live. A country without a government is Somalia. I don't know anybody who would want to move there.

Global Financial Crisis Hits Mongolia's Grasslands

"On the vast Mongolian grasslands, far away from talk of mineral deals, the crisis has already hit Munkhbat Dashtseren. Watching his wife ladling hot milk, he is worrying about the present.

Lured by low interest rates, the 59-year-old took out a $700 bank loan to buy a motorcycle and a new ger for his son. But then the financial crisis hit, and interest rates — and his repayments — went up. Meanwhile, commodity prices plummeted, and food prices rocketed, leaving his family of six struggling.

"Tomorrow I have to go to pay money to the bank. I've had to sell 20 sheep to do this. It affects me a huge amount. Before I used to buy lots of bags of flour and rice to stockpile over there. Now you see it's empty," he says.

Dashtseren says he can no longer find any way to cut his family's expenditures.

"We cannot eat any less," he says wearily. "We don't eat too much anyway."

RE: Taxing Churches and Non-Profits

There was a time not long ago when the networth of the Catholic church was second only to AT&T, that was before AT&T was broken up of course.

RE: Elvis's Anniversery-which song/s opitomised him?

There's a movie called "Myatery Train? which is almost impossible to describe but is takes place in Memphis TN with an underlying Elvis Presley theme. Well, it's actually 3 different stories that seem totally disconnected and unrelated to each other until near the end when they all come together and it all makes sense. You'll probably have a hard time finding this movie but it's worth the hunt.

RE: If you were granted the power to be a super hero, which one would you choose? And why?

Superman without a doubt. I think it would be cool to be able to fly and x-ray vision would come in mighty handy.blushing

RE: Elvis's Anniversery-which song/s opitomised him?

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to a new singing sensation, his name is Elvis Presley. Lets give a warm welcome to this young man who came all the way from Memphis, Tennessee to entertain you folks tonight. Elvis,! come on out here and get these good folks up on their feet.

RE: Need ideas for interesting threads !!!!

Too funny!
I would write a suicide note very poorly in the dirt that said "I have an egg stuck in my butt and I can't stand it anymore."

RE: Fire in California

Hi neighbor!wave You live in a beautiful part of the state.thumbs up I use to go up & down rt 29 from Culpeper for work years ago.

About the missing guy, do you remember his name? You might try "Search"

As to the CA fires, it is a tragedy which CA can ill afford at the moment. The most horrible aspect of it is, it was a case of arson. I wish I had an answer about what to do to prevent arson. It is such a heavy price to pay just for some sick B___tards insane act.
I'm very relieved though that Mount Wilson Observatory was spared. That would have been a major loss to the world of science and astronomy.

RE: Shoud the wasteful socialist government run police be taken over by more efficient private companies

Who is Glenn Beck?

RE: For Herb

I knew it would. Sometimes you need to really let it out. I'm happy I was able to help. BTW John McDermott recorded that song shortly after his own dad died if I'm not mistaken.
Oh and please, if you print out my poem please do me a favor and insert the word "in" before 78 in both places, I didn't notice the omission til after I hit enter. I'm such a klutz.doh

RE: Do aborted fetuses go to heaven?

I'm so sorry Judy. I know it's a mess but I did the best I could with my poem.
