RE: Innocent or guilty

That is a good answer. Even though she may have bought other food that included peanut butter and jelly she might not have any bread or milk. handshake

RE: Innocent or guilty

Frisky, your thread isn't talking about everybody. It is about one mother with children.

You wrote in your opening statement the things that she pays for. And you corrected me that I missed that you said she bought food. So she pays for everything that most of us pay for.

Why did she steal the bread and milk?

RE: Innocent or guilty

Okay, so why did she steal the bread and milkdunno

RE: Innocent or guilty

This just doesn't make sense. "She pays for rent, prescriptions, utilities, gasoline, car insurance, clothing and toiletries".

And she doesn't have a budget for food??????????? Nope....Nope...Nope...There's more to the story.

Everybody has a roof over their head
They have electricity and water
They have a car that is insured
And they can put gas in the car
They can get a prescription filled if needed

But they don't have food??????

If the situation was real a mother would steal a meat sandwich, a small carton of milk and an apple.

As for asking if she is guilty, yes she is. The judge will give her a counselor who will advise her how to get food stamps and where the food pantries are.

Why a mother would be able to pay for all those other things and not have a food budget is not realistic.

RE: Innocent or guilty

thumbs up

RE: Innocent or guilty

To sue the government she would need a pro bono lawyer. She would lose the case because there are homeless shelters to provide a roof over her head and there are food pantries in most cities in the U.S. The State would prove that she was lazy and looking for an easy way out even though I'm sure she wasn't. It wouldn't be a jury trial. It would be a bench trial where the judge would make the decision. It might be her lucky day to get a friendly judge but it might go the other way.

RE: Innocent or guilty

Community service isn't always cleaning bathrooms, scrubbing floors in a office building. They would take a look at the two jobs she does and figure out what her best skills are. Even one or two days of community service is all that is needed for the public to see that you cannot steal and get away with it. Even though my heart goes out to her she should teach her children to find a way when times get tough.

RE: Service animals

I think it's about more than cheating the system. Dogs with long hair carry ticks, skin diseases, they shouldn't be allowed in stores. You'd never see that in the northern states.

RE: Innocent or guilty

Guilty. I wouldn't sentence her to prison because she needs to take care of her children. I would suggest community service and introduce her to food pantries where she can get free food.

RE: Service animals

I don't like many things in North Carolina. One of them being that dogs are allowed to go into stores. Grocery stores, pharmacies, Home Depot. The handler uses the excuse that the dog is a therapy dog. If the dog doesn't have a therapy vest on saying the name of the organization that sponsors the dog then it's not a therapy dog. People don't want to leave their dogs at home and that's why they take them into stores the worst being the grocery store where their fur can fly onto the fresh vegetables and fruit.

RE: If you won big money would it change you?

Then it would change you Gal because you can't sail around the world now but if you had the money it would change your lifestyle.

It would definitely change me. I would move back to New Jersey, buy a house, hire people to clean it, a chef to cook and a landscaper to cut the lawn. I will still do my own laundry giggle

RE: The means or the end

It would depend on where I was when I needed to save them and what am I saving them from.

If stranded on an island I would save the senior who would probably have a wealth of knowledge that could get us off the island.

If stranded in a hotel with floors above and below me that are on fire I would put the baby in the senior's arms like Selenite said. If the senior couldn't hold the baby, then I would make a carrier or sling out of a bedsheet and save the baby. I would also make a rope of sorts from other parts of the bedsheet or blinds to wrap around the senior to hold as a leash guiding him/her out of the building
