Well, Captain (I thought you were banned - did they redeem you already?), have you looked at the logical consequences of this belief? Influenza, in its various and colorful forms, kills thousands of people each year. Some have been equally or more lethal than the Swine Flu. Would you support compulsory flu shots? If not, why not?
Various cold viruses probably kill some people each year as well. Should people who have colds be forced into quarantine?
Where this would lead logically would be to a mammoth government health agency which oversees everything we do related to health. Hell, people who drink too much coffee probably pose a threat because their frayed nerves could cause them to mishandle a car or heavy machinery. Being overweight is a drain on our medical system, likely causing loss of life due to diversion of finite health services.
You will argue that we can create rational, sensible lines which separate health tyranny for health democracy, but I think when you advocate forcing people to ingest substances into their bodies you are clearly crossing that sensible line.
I've always regarded your attitude on this as superior, T. Could I achieve it under similar circumstances? Very doubtful. But I do admire you for it nonetheless.
That's a LOT of "not thinking" about someone "dead" to you, Athens...
I don't think it's a matter of being a "better person" by "forgiving" someone, but rather about having a better life.
"Forgiving" is likely the wrong word. But clearly, by still holding anger toward someone for betraying you, one is continuing to give him or her power over oneself. So really, it's more about self-interest, acting in one's own best interest - not for his or her benefit - that one should consider ceasing (is that better than "forgiving"?) one's condemnation of the betrayer.
After reading your poem, of course, I could never forgive him. But that's my problem.
"Expanded"? Didn't you write earlier (very sensibly, I thought) that one could carry on occasional friendly conversations but not go on dates with one's exes? That doesn't read like an "expansion" to me - sounds more like a "contraction."
As long as I don't know or like my neighbor, what's the problem? The government(s) know best, no?
For instance, if the government told us a whole people were evil and responsible for bad things in our society, we'd happily herd them into train cars and detention centers, wouldn't we? I know I would.
In other words, T, why not go along with the collective? After all, you're no individualist who would exercise his own judgment over the common weal, are you?
But seriously, why take a government's proclamations on faith? Where's the evidence of some horrible virus killing people en masse? Surely something so devastating would be known by every educated person by now?
Well, Karen, couldn't someone say pretty much the same thing about you (that if you can be with two men at once and aid and abet cheating, coudln't you do that to someone else?)?
I wonder if he knows the whole truth, though? Hard to imagine him tolerating it if he did. I don't think that speaks well of him.
Leave it to Karen to stir up her usual hornet's nest. She certainly is a colorful CS character; one can't take that away from her. But someone to have a healthy, long-term relationship with?? Karen, I suspect you have a LOT of work to do before that will be possible. Right now you seem awfully self-satisfied with traits in yourself that are extremely destructive with regard to relationships.
