I'm the one who thinks there is no God or heaven and is going out to make this world a better place, since there is nothing else. blushing

RE: Any song ever stopped you in your tracks?

Hey, R! Yeah, I do remember...in fact, that was one of my MOMENTS. David Bowie singing "Space Oddity" in the early seventies on my black and white TV (talk about being dated!).

Interesting...why did you think to ask me that??confused dunno

Roh, I also like his "sequel" to Space Oddity...I think it's simply called Space Oddity Two, but I'm not sure. In it he reflects more about Major Tom's experiences and legend on Earth.

David was/is something of a genius, I think. Definitely inimitable.

RE: Any song ever stopped you in your tracks?

God, several of them, G. I remember saying "Huh?" when Jim Morrison and the Doors came on singing Light My Fire. I remember pausing in a Wisconsin small-town store when Alice Cooper belted out "School's Out." The time in a mall when I froze upon hearing Enya's "Exile." My eyes opened wide upon hearing Loreena McKennitt's "All Souls Night." Sting's "Synchronicity" one summer in Colorado. Oyster Cult's "Reaper" one evening on the radio.

RE: All men.. listen now cause I know what I am talking about

I'd agree that being in good physical shape and making some serious effort to be more attractive VASTLY increases the odds of finding someone and having a successful romantic relationship. Someone who does those things not only looks better - they are more vigorous and healthy and confident and basically feel better about themselves overall. All things being equal, of course.

RE: Jungle fever..you feel the same?

Do you have any idea where your strong racial preference comes from? That seems a tad unusual...confused

RE: Ethnic Cleansing in Afghanistan

You Canadians were sold the same bill of goods that we Americans were. "Freedom of choice"? It's all about geopolitics - money and power - as usual. Just as with all wars.

RE: Are we (the citizens of a country) responsible for what our country does?

You could vote for someone, and they could fail to take the promised actions which earned your vote - in which case, your only responsibility would be to remove them from office (if possible). Obviously, if you can't remove them from office, you're not responsible for their actions. This elides the question of whether or not there even exists a meaningful choice among the various candidates. I see no point in voting for anyone if they don't represent my views. I see a point in the "none of the above" option - it says I do not sanction any of these people (or, perhaps, the system they represent).

RE: Are we (the citizens of a country) responsible for what our country does?

Okay, well, if you're conscripted, clearly the base of responsibility shifts to the conscriptor. It's as though I put a gun to your head and told you to shoot another person. The moral responsibility lies with the person placing a gun to your head - or at least the bulk of that responsibility.

RE: If you liked one of your best friends would you go 4 it ? an risk your friendship if it didnt work?

How could you be best friends with someone you didn't like? confused

Seriously, of course you should. Your desire's already there - trying to suppress or hide that is likely going to negatively effect your friendship anyway. If you're rejected romantically, there's no reason why your friendship can't resume - unless you don't allow it to. After all, the only difference between the two scenarios is that in one case your best friend knows the truth. How can you live a lie with your best friend without severely compromising your relationship?

RE: Are we (the citizens of a country) responsible for what our country does?

Well, if a government has those kinds of rules for military conflict, you surely bear a responsibility for joining its military (knowing that). I certainly wouldn't place all the blame on "politicians." They require fools or obedient servants/civilians to implement their policies.

Let's say you live in a country with an unjust government. I see a fairly large difference between not actively joining branches of that government which enforce draconian rules and actively joining those branches. You're clearly making the choice to become part of its evil when you choose to actively assist its policies, no?dunno wave

RE: Are we (the citizens of a country) responsible for what our country does?

hmmm What responsibility do you think individual soldiers bear for their actions? Aren't you responsible for joining the military? Aren't you responsible for assessing the morality of a given military campaign (for example, attacking/bombing a city where innocents will be killed, or fighting for an unjust/immoral cause)? conversing wave
